TEMPORARY PART-TIME UNIT CLERK OR / SAME DAY CARE – For approximately 18 months
Rate of Pay: $27.154 – $30.338

Job Description:
The OR /SDC Clerk will provide administrative support within the perioperative services department, ensuring smooth operations and effective coordination between patients, healthcare providers, and support staff. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Main Job Duties:
- Create master schedules for multiple teams that support department needs and complexities.
- Prepare schedules and vacation planners following MHA non-union polices and the ONA collective agreements.
- Cover immediate and future vacancies, prepare staffing boards, manage schedulers and the master OR calendar.
- Complete payroll following MHA non-union polices and the ONA collective agreements.
- Manage booking slips (elective and board cases), OR bookings and all related pre-admission appointments ensuring proper alignment with surgeons, anesthesia teams, and other relevant departments.
- Communicate with MDRD with pick cards, scheduling and changes including add-on cases or order changes.
- Communicate with diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, patient registration, health records, ambulatory care and physio to coordinate care.
- Support the charge nurse with required schedules and status reports.
- Support Quality Improvement Decision Support Specialist with statistical data.
- Communicate with patients to confirm preoperative instructions and assist with any queries regarding surgery and hospital policies.
- Serve as a point of contact for patients, medical staff, and other hospital departments to relay important information and provide support as needed.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including surgical schedules, consent forms, and medical records.
Job Qualifications:
- At time of hire, must provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox). Must provide documented proof of two COVID 19 vaccinations.
- At time of hire, must provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing within the previous 12 months.
- Secondary School Diploma
- Recent clerk experience in peri-operative services, outpatient-setting experience preferred.
- Proficiency with skills in a "windows" based environment including Excel, Word and Access
- Experience with Gateway Reporting, Cerner, Surginet
- Medical Terminology course preferred
- Experience with wait times, QBP funding
- Experience with booking OR cases, pre-admit clinics and multi-practitioner appointments
- Experience with staffing, building schedules scheduling, payroll procedures, knowledge of ONA Collective agreement and nonunion policies and procedures
- Excellent clerical skills
- Demonstrated ability to assess concurrent demands, set priorities, organize work and maintain accuracy and concentration during periods of high activity.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated communication skills for patient care and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of the health care team.
- Understanding and use of good body mechanics. Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Demonstrated Excellence in Attendance
