Hours per Week: 35
Salary Grade 13

The base salary will be $62,480 - $89,040 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Western Research provides strategic and administrative support to advance Western University’s research mission and profile.

Responsibilities
Internal awards provide funds for new and innovative research projects and activities within the University, and provide support to researchers in accelerating their research programs. The Internal Grants Facilitator will manage a suite of internal grant funding programs in adherence with Western Research policies, procedures and guidelines. The role responsibilities include providing guidance and acting as a subject matter expert to faculty, staff, post-docs and students across campus regarding assigned internal research grants, and delivering client-oriented services in support of the university's strategic research initiatives. The Internal Grants Facilitator will facilitate the development, implementation and administration of internal grants programming, including the development and implementation of guidelines, program administration and adjudication, and serving as the primary point of contact.

Qualifications
Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in a relevant field
Experience:
  • 3 years’ experience administering high volume and complex processes in an academic environment
  • Experience related to research and/or grant administration is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • In-depth working knowledge of University research administration policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with best practices for reviewing grant applications and other types of application materials
  • Strong understanding of ranking methodologies, scoring systems and statistical normalization (e.g. z-scores, weighted averages)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, 
  • Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
  • Familiarity with developing and implementing processes and guidelines
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Ability to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Customer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
  • Ability to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlines
  • Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with a variety of stakeholders, demonstrated ability to build relationships
  • Strong proficiency in computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite and database management, with ability to develop and prepare reports, analyses (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, conditional formatting, data validation) and presentations  
  • Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback in a way that is positively received
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, while being open to trying new ideas and working methods
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team, to take initiative and champion a project to achieve department goals from implementation to evaluation
