In support of Western’s academic, research and service activities, the Manager, Accounts Receivable develops and implements a reliable system that enables revenue generating and billing units to invoice external partners for goods and services purchased from Western.  The incumbent strives for the timely collection of those funds, along with timely and accurate customer account updates to ensure the integrity of the database and effective accounting in support of the Western community. The Manager is accountable for the efficient and effective administration of the Employee Purchase Plan (Computer Loans), is the designated expert on matters relating to the collection of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), oversees the efficient operation of the Central Cashier and provides advice and guidance to the Western Community to ensure compliance with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Business Management / Administration
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation

Experience:
- 3 years’ financial accounting experience in a business office environment
- Experience supervising and managing staff
- Accounts receivable experience including collections and sub ledger reconciliations
- Experience in a large unionized, academic or not-for-profit environment
- Familiarity with Harmonized Sales Tax administration and reporting
- Strong financial systems (e.g. PeopleSoft or ERP system) knowledge is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Access)
- Demonstrated analytical ability with working knowledge of accounting principles
- Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines
- Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to delegate work and provide team members with clear direction and support in meeting their objectives
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve desired results
- Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, while being open to trying new ideas and working methods
- Strong problem solving skills including experience formulating and executing action plans
- Ability to establish and maintain strong, productive relationships with, senior management, direct reports, colleagues and external partners
- Ability to foster the long-term learning and development of staff through coaching, managing performance, and mentoring
- Ability to implement process change using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively deal with colleagues and external partners
- Ability to work well under pressure, maintaining composure when dealing with direct reports, colleagues and external partners
