Position Description
The Community Impact Specialist is responsible for managing a portfolio of community investments and projects, and for participating in collaborative initiatives related to poverty reduction and community development. The role of the Community Impact Specialist is to be United Way’s primary link to funded agencies, community collaborations, and networks and to manage United Way’s funding process.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manages Community Fund allocations process
  • Responsible for managing relationships with funded agencies, community partners and volunteers
  • Ensures appropriate stewardship practices and processes for community funding
  • Actively participates in systems-level change processes
  • Assists with advocacy, research and evaluation initiatives
  • Represents United Way at community planning tables and committees

Our Ideal Candidate Will Possess
  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in social services, community development or related field
  • Minimum three years’ experience in community development, social services or related field
  • Expertise and experience in the development and delivery of programs, services and strategies that address poverty
  • Experience working with funders, social services providers, community coalitions and networks
  • Knowledge of the social services sector in London, Middlesex County, St Thomas, and Elgin County, and of the social challenges facing our region as well as an understanding of current strategies in place to address local priorities
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods; ability to conduct data analysis and write plain language reports
  • Experience in measurement and evaluation of program outcomes and knowledge of shared measurement strategies
  • Proven organizational skills, including ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines under pressure, and carry projects to completion with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, foster and grow relationships with volunteers, non-profit organizations and funders
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse populations and multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to flex work schedule to attend meetings and special events, which at times occur before or after regular office hours
  • Requires possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle with a minimum of $1,000,000 insurance coverage
