Visitor Services & Shop Associate (Part-time)

Museum London seeks a part-time Visitor Services & Shop Associate on an as-needed basis, Monday through Sunday during the Museum's open hours. Reporting to the Supervisor of Retail & Visitor Services, the Visitor Services & Shop Associate will be scheduled for shifts at the welcome desk or in the Shop. They play a critical role in visitor experience and contribute to creating a friendly, welcoming environment as the first point of contact for a diverse public. The incumbent is responsible for providing excellent customer service in greeting and providing information to visitors as well as performing front-of-house transactions and clerical duties. They also serve in the Shop to assist customers and process sales transactions.

The successful candidate will be dependable with the ability to consistently work the assigned schedule; evenings and weekends are required. As an outgoing and enthusiastic person with a passion for art, history, and community, the Visitor Services & Shop Associate is an important ambassador for the Museum and our work.

Scope of Work

Welcome Desk Duties

  • Acts as a first point of contact between the Museum and the public and plays a lead role in welcoming, orienting and providing front-line information to visitors, volunteers, service providers and others who enter the Museum.
  • Is knowledgeable about Museum amenities, operations and programs, and shares accurate information about exhibitions, collections, education, engagement activities and events with visitors at the welcome desk; directing inquires to other staff members as appropriate.
  • Is knowledgeable about policies and procedures related to accessibility and provides materials and resources to visitors to support their experience.
  • Performs general reception, answers phone and directs calls as appropriate.
  • Monitors cameras and maintains radio/phone contact with security personnel to support security and inform them of issues.
  • Maintains the welcome desk and public entranceway areas in an orderly, proactive and professional manner.
  • Supports program registration as required.
  • Receives mail and courier materials.

Shop Duties

  • Greets and serves customers in the retail store and answers a variety of Shop-related inquiries.
  • Operates point-of-sale functions including payment processing and end-of-day balancing.
  • Assists in managing inventory by unpacking shipments, fulfilling online orders, restocking and merchandising products.
  • Works with volunteers.
  • Works independently and effectively to ensure smooth operation of the Shop.

Skills & Qualifications

  • High School diploma with clerical and retail experience in a customer-focused, arts and culture based environment.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to multi-task.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a high level of trust and integrity, contributing to a positive work culture.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, internet and fundraising database applications, and experience with Shopify or other retail point-of-sale systems is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, results-oriented, and the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • • Flexible availability, including the ability to accept occasional short-notice shifts.

Hours

  • Part-time as needed from Monday to Sunday with evening and weekend scheduling.

Location

  • This is an in-person position based in London, Ontario.

Compensation

  • The 2025 hourly wage is $22.68 as per the Collective Agreement. This position is part of the CUPE bargaining unit.
