Facilities Management is responsible for the planning, development, engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western’s campus community. The Engagement Coordinator (Sustainability) will work in collaboration to promote, develop and implement sustainability initiatives at Western that will educate staff, faculty and students on sustainability, waste reduction, and energy conservation opportunities across campus. The successful candidate will coordinate engagement and communications efforts and events related to sustainability and will identify, recommend, implement and monitor changes across campus and will work to ensure that Western becomes a recognized leader in environmental sustainability by engaging students, staff and faculty across campus in a variety of sustainability initiatives.


Qualifications

Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Sustainability or a related field

Experience:
- 2 years' experience in an environmental sustainability role
- Experience with social media and digital communications
- Previous work experience in a post-secondary environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of sustainability and environmental topics (e.g. waste/ emissions reduction, conservation, procurement, STARS reporting, life cycle costing)
- Familiarity with e-communication tools including website, graphic design principles and with social media platforms relevant to student populations
- Knowledge of theory and best practice s with marketing trends and best practices
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers and external stakeholders
- Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response to cultural and social trends
- Highly developed interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to engage audiences and interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization
- Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills
- A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision, while being able to actively contribute in meetings and in team settings
- Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response to cultural and social trends
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Project coordination skills to coordinate a project from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
