About Us
The Office of the Registrar supports students’ academic pursuits as well as Western’s strategic goals by delivering an array of integrated services in a professional environment, while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of student information throughout the student lifecycle.

Responsibilities
The Manager, Student Financial Aid oversees a team of 10 direct or indirect reports who administer the Ontario Student Assistance Program for over 17,500 undergraduate, professional, and graduate students, as well as comparable provincial grant/loan programs outside of Ontario.  The role acts as an advisor and resource regarding student financial aid to the Associate Registrar, Student Financial Services, Faculties and Students.  The Manager, Student Financial Aid will ensure that the student financial aid team provides exemplary service and counselling to current and prospective students regarding their financial aid options in the context of Western’s financial aid strategy, while adhering to all government and University financial aid policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Education:
  • University Degree
  • Master’s Degree preferred 
Experience:
  • 5 years progressive experience in an academic environment with increasing responsibilities 
  • Project management experience, preferably in a higher education institution
  • Experience supervising and coaching staff
  • Previous work experience in accounting or finance is preferred 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Current in-depth knowledge of government student loan programs 
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft HE or a comparable higher education system
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), experience creating PeopleSoft queries is an asset
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills with the ability to develop shared vision to lead employees to excellence
  • Advanced ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) and lead collaborative business discussions that result in a shared commitment to best practices
  • Strong people management experience with direct accountability for recruitment, on-going training and development, and performance management
  • Strong cognitive skills including problem analysis, decision-making, financial and quantitative analysis
  • Creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, while exercising good judgment in difficult situations
  • Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements
  • Familiarity with FIPPA regulations 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
