Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager, Community Partnerships and Employer Engagement, the Employer Engagement Coordinator works to develop and foster strong collaborative relationships with employers, employer networks, industry sectors, unions and related organizations while adhering to the contract requirements of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD). Through collaboration and network, this position gathers labour market information from the employer’s perspective and shares readily with LRES, service providers and community partners across the region.  

 

This position works with regional workforce and economic development offices, local workforce development committees, partnerships, and initiatives to ensure LRES maintains a strong connection to and understanding of labour market needs.  

 

This position provides assistance in implementing effective marketing and outreach strategies and will promote the LRES network, its services and supports to employers facilitating employer access to employment service providers, appropriate programs, information and available resources.

Work Performed:

  • Identify, develop and maintain strong relationships with employers, unions, labour groups, and employer networks from various industries to understand their workforce needs and hiring requirements, both individually and collectively.
  • Contact employers directly, address their inquiries, provide information and resources about employment services, facilitate access to appropriate programs, and offer solutions that match their staffing needs.
  • Act as a liaison between employers and employment service providers to demonstrate an integrated network of employment service providers including orientation opportunities (e.g., workplace tours, networking sessions). 
  • Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and events that bring together interest-holders to discuss labour market trends, challenges, and solutions.
  • Coordinate information sessions, trade shows, networking events, job fairs, and individual meetings with employers to assist employers in linking to job seekers and regional talent.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of information on local, regional, and national labour market trends, including industry demands, skill shortages, and emerging employment opportunities to inform decision-making, program development and outreach strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with employers, employment service providers, the Ministry (MLITSD), economic development offices and local workforce development to determine staffing needs and ensure a coordinated approach in meeting significant labour market changes.  
  • Coordinate Ramp Up, Rapid Response and labour market adjustment protocols when required.
  • Work in collaboration with LRES staff and employment service providers to assess current service offerings and identify areas for improvement or expansion based on labour market insights, training gaps, needs assessments and feedback from employers.

  • Encourage and engage employers to provide industry/occupation specific input and expertise into LRES program and services.
  • Attend relevant industry events, trade shows, conferences, and networking opportunities to expand LRES’s presence, gather insights, exchange program knowledge and service updates, and build partnerships with key interest-holders.
  • Collaborate with LRES management team to develop and maintain a comprehensive employer database which includes eligibility, record of site visits, employer profile and all other relevant data.
  • Monitor employer satisfaction with LRES service providers and conduct on-going follow-up to ensure successful employment outcomes and processes, identification of trends, opportunities for training supports, resources and coaching, financial incentives, professional development opportunities, gaps in employee preparation which LRES can assist in addressing. 
  • Participate in various committees as appropriate.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of relevant guidelines, legislation and regulations including Employment Standards Act, Municipal Freedom of Information Protection of Privacy Act / Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and employment insurance policies, and ensure employers’ adherence, as required.
  • Maintain an ongoing awareness of changes in the local employment market, challenges employers may face in recruiting, hiring and retaining talent, barriers to employment experienced by individuals and communities within the region, to inform program, policy and contract development.
  • May be required to travel to employment centres and other agencies across London catchment area (London, St. Thomas as well as Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford counties).
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Completion of a three-year university degree or advanced diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources or Marketing or equivalent.

Experience:

Five years of relevant business work experience in job development, promotion of employment services, business and community development, communications, and /or human resources working directly with businesses, and employers.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Class G Driver’s licence and access to transportation.

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

  • Demonstrated exceptional relationship-building skills with a diversity of individuals, groups and organizations. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the human resource needs of employers particularly relating to workforce recruitment, hiring and retention.
  • Ability to advise employers on recruitment, hiring and retention strategies.
  • Ability to analyze problems, facilitate solutions and promote programs to effect change is required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues related to unemployment, under-employment and labour market participation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the systemic barriers that prevent equitable participation in the workplace for disadvantaged individuals experiencing poverty, mental health issues or addictions, persons with disabilities, Black and Indigenous people, and other racialized peoples, and women. 
  • Ability to understand government program guidelines and policies to assist accordingly in the development and adaptation of LRES programs, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written, interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills. 
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to effectively administer several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to write and speak French fluently is an asset.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn use of relevant software applications is required. 

Compensation & Other Information:

$56,455 - $81,677 (Level 13)

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
