Presstran Industries, a division of Cosma International, located in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada produces automotive stampings and welded assemblies used in front motor compartments, underbody structures, truck frame components, front and rear suspensions as well as non-automotive applications.

Position Summary:
 
Under the general direction of the General Manager/ Assistant General Manager, the Manufacturing Department Leader - Stamping confers regularly with other divisional staff specialists on matters directly related to all press shop operations. The Department Leader oversees Stamping Department operations and supports management, supervisors, and production personnel by acting as a liaison in matters regarding policy application, employee relations, and continuous improvement for processes and productivity. This position carries direct and/or indirect supervisory responsibility for approximately 200 employees on more than one shift.
 
Job Qualification Requirements:
 
  1. Certificate/Diploma/Degree in one of the following:  Industrial Management, Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent work experience.
  2. Trade license (i.e. toolmaker) considered a definite asset.
  3. Must possess knowledge and proven skills in one of the following:  Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen.
  4. Must possess human relations skills and maturity of judgement.
  5. Must possess time management, leadership, communication, organizational and presentation skills.
  6. Skill gained by experience - minimum 5 years in a leadership role.
 
Essential Job Functions:
 
  1. Participates in the development of the Annual Business Plan.
  2. Develops department action plan to achieve strategic goals and continuous improvement objectives.
  3. Promotes/recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes and equipment/machinery.
  4. Participates in manpower requirements planning, overtime scheduling, co-ordinating lay offs, and assists with capacity planning to meet future objectives.
  5. Co-ordinates preventative maintenance with toolroom/maintenance departments and production planner.
  6. Assists in the development of procedures and methods which improve quality/productivity/cost to the stamping operation.
  7. Co-ordinates the movement of quarantine material/parts/scrap upon disposition by material buyer/quality assurance.
  8. Prepares/monitors departmental budget.
  9. Orders supplies and deals with all salesmen and subcontractors relating to department.
  10. Teach, coach and mentor direct reports.
  11. Effectively builds and fosters teamwork within the department.
  12. Conducts performance appraisals informally or formally as required.
  13. Conducts monthly employee meetings.
  14. Enforces and follows the Presstran Health and Safety program/procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation for Industrial Establishments and other relevant Codes and Standards.
  15. Performs regular workplace inspections, correcting unsafe acts or conditions. Reporting and leading investigations in serious/critical incident/accidents.
  16. Follows and adheres to requirements of current customer quality and environmental management systems standards.
The incumbent requires excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal. The Manufacturing Department Leader - Stamping works in an office environment but is exposed to elements such as noise/temperature during time spent on the plant floor collecting/exchanging information.
