Position Overview

Our client is seeking a creative, organized, and client-focused Senior Landscape Designer to join their team in St. Marys, ON. This role blends landscape design, client-facing sales, and leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will meet directly with clients to present design possibilities, negotiate scope and pricing, and close projects, while also overseeing and mentoring a Junior Designer/Assistant.

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Compensation: $32-$36/hour (depending upon experience)

Key Responsibilities

• Meet with clients in person, virtually, by phone, or email to understand their needs, vision, budget, and expectations
• Conduct site visits to take measurements (metric and imperial), notes, photos, and layout details
• Prepare landscape designs including concept drawings, detailed plans, hardscape plans, softscape plans, and deck and fence layouts
• Present designs and proposals to clients, clearly communicating options, feasibility, and value
• Coordinate with clients throughout the sales process, including revisions, negotiations, and closing projects
• Source landscape materials and samples
• Complete material take-offs and assist with estimating
• Read and interpret structural drawings and design documents
• Assist with scheduling and coordination of jobs
• Maintain strong client care throughout the project lifecycle
• Oversee, mentor, and support a Junior Designer/Assistant, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely completion of work
• Conduct occasional site visits for progress updates and photos
• Perform some administrative tasks related to projects and client records
• Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure designs are buildable and aligned with timelines
• Comply with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications & Requirements

• Completion of high school plus college or technical training in Landscape Design or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in landscape design
• Proficiency with landscape design software such as Dynascape, SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar tools
• Must have 3D rendering experience
• Knowledge of local building codes and regulations
• Strong understanding of landscape materials, methods, and construction practices
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and plans
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Work Conditions

• Position would start out 100% in-office with ability to become hybrid in the future
• Regular site visits required for measuring, layout, and inspections
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, cold, dust, and noise
• Fast-paced environment with multiple projects on the go
