Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager, Employment Services Operations, the Training Coordinator, LRES is responsible for the development, coordination, and maintenance of on-going training programs, learning resources and job aids for Integrated Employment Services provided through London Regional Employment Services (LRES).

 

This position provides learning opportunities, training materials, job aids and general program technical support to internal City staff, external service provider network, job seekers, and employers across the geographical area of London, Middlesex, St. Thomas, Elgin, and Oxford.

 

The Training Coordinator, LRES will work in collaboration with LRES team, internal divisions and external employment service providers, community partners, networks, and municipalities to provide relevant employment information, training, tools and leverage existing resources.

Work Performed:

  • Conduct training needs assessments by consulting with employment service providers, employers, community partners, networks, and municipalities to identify information, skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed. 
  • Make recommendations with respect to training and development needs of staff, service provider networks, employers, job seekers, and community partners. 
  • Design, develop and co-ordinate on-going training programs, job aids, resource materials, program guides, manuals, learning videos, guest speakers / subject area experts, and demonstrations to assist LRES in meeting program goals and objectives for Integrated Employment Services. 
  • Design, develop, coordinate, and implement yearly training plans using appropriate training methods and approaches, schedules and communicate the plans to the Manager, Employment Services Operations.
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate training sessions and workshops, monitor participation statistics, and prepare reports with analysis, evaluation, and recommendations.
  • Conduct research to stay attuned of current and changing trends including best practices to enhance Integrated Employment Services and delivery.
  • Network with employment and workforce development associations, OMSSA (Ontario Municipal Social Services Association), and other trainers or similar positions in other municipalities/agencies and Service System Managers (SSM).
  • Investigate sources for internal and external trainers and arrange for training delivery, coordinating with both internal and external partners.

  • Create, update, and maintain the learning management system, on-line depositories or learning portal where partners can access current and up-to-date learning materials and supports.
  • Partner with other staff to build and/or maintain learning curriculum, as well as to manage and maintain online/virtual training platforms and co-ordinate training facilities and equipment.
  • Continually seek opportunities to strengthen employer, employment service network and staff capacity and effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for LRES participation in relevant professional training, seminars, conferences, symposia, and other activities/events.
  • Ensure that the project expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
  • May be required to travel to employment centres and other agencies across London catchment area (London, St. Thomas as well as Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford counties).
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Completion of a three-year university degree or advanced diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources or equivalent AND a completed certificate in Training, learning and development, Adult Education or equivalent is required.

Experience:

Three years of relevant work experience in training, learning and development, to include needs assessment, program design, delivery, evaluation, and related administration.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Class G Driver’s licence and access to transportation
Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles with proven ability to adapt information into effective programs, and information for target populations. 
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills to facilitate instruction, prepare documentation and messaging, and exchange information with learners / audiences.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to effectively influence outcomes.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with ability to learn use of relevant software applications is required.  Familiarity with learning software is an asset.
  • Effective analytical and organizational skills with the ability to successfully problem-solve a variety of project and technical issues.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a high-pressure, high-volume team-oriented environment with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and high level of attention to detail with ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to understand government programs and policies and develop and adapt programs accordingly.
  • Demonstrated exceptional relationship-building skills with a diversity of partners.
  • Ability to analyse problems, facilitate solutions and promote programs to effect change is required.
  • Experience in employment services and/ or social services, with demonstrated understanding of issues related to unemployment and under-employment is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the systemic barriers that prevent equitable participation the workplace for equity denied individuals those experiencing poverty, mental health issues or addictions, Black people, Indigenous people and other racialized peoples, persons with disabilities, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, women, Francophones, Youth at Risk, Over 55+.

Compensation & Other Information:

$52,264 - $74,595 (Level 11)

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
