Drake International is hiring a Senior Product Development Engineer for our client in London, Ontario. The Senior R&D Engineer will primarily be responsible for the engineering development of products and services for railroad applications globally. Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in product development. Lead the design, implementation and validation of hardware including analog circuit design, PCBs, enclosures, harness and operator interfaces for use in a harsh environment.
• Research, select and validate suitable off-the-shelf electronic products such as electromechanical devices, digital and analog electronics, sensors, antennas, PLCs, wiring and connectors.
• Develop software and implement new and innovative algorithms for mechanical and electrical systems control using PLCs.
• Plan and perform prototype, functional, environmental and electrical testing of products and services to ensure reliability and compliance with regulations and standards.
• Meet project schedule, budget and performance criteria.
• Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Prepare accurate estimates for technical work.
• Prepare technical and project documentation to support new products (i.e. customer-facing installation instructions, manufacturing instructions, technical specifications, etc.).
• Provide occasional on-site control system installation support and testing at globally located rail yards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years hands-on experience designing hardware and developing control systems with a focus on analog circuit design and programmable logic controllers
• P-Eng designation is preferred. 
• Experience leading highly technical projects with proven success of meeting schedule, budget and performance criteria
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to encourage strong team dynamics, and persuade and motivate complex cross-functional teams
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven ability to drive projects to successful completion, as well as the ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
• Exceptionally self-motivated, innovative, focused and detail-oriented
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
• Note that occasional travel is required, primarily in the United States.
