Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant - OTA/PTA VH

The Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA), under the direction of the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, conducts therapeutic programs with patients to facilitate meeting defined treatment goals and completes tasks necessary for the maintenance of a safe and efficient treatment environment. The OTA/PTA reports to the Manager- Occupational Therapy Practice as well as the Manager of Physiotherapy Practice. The work assignment for this position will be to support adult populations at LHSC.

Regular Part-Time

Rate of Pay: $29.71 per hour - $31.57 per hour

Hours of Work: No guarantee of hours

Initial Shift: Shifts as required by unit and subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Qualifications

  • Physiotherapist Assistant Diploma or Certificate and Occupational Therapist Assistant Diploma or Certificate or OTA/PTA Diploma or Certificate
  • Recent, relevant, direct acute patient treatment experience, including:
    • Performing patient transfers and functional mobility training
    • Supervision of patients using equipment for mobility and activities of daily living
    • Performing strengthening, range of motion, balance and coordination programs
    • Positioning and w/c seating of patients assisting in the planning and implementation of therapeutic activity programs.
    • Fabricates or modifies aids, adaptive equipment and self-help devices
    • Monitoring patient response to treatment and appropriate reporting
  • Recent OTA/PTA experience in a hospital acute care setting
  • Demonstrated health and physical condition consistent with lifting, bending, transferring patients and long periods of standing, walking, stair climbing, exposure of hands to hot and cold temperatures
  • Ability to supervise and educate students
  • Demonstrated interest and experience with a geriatric population preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work and interact effectively in a collaborative, interprofessional team setting
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to motivate others
  • Initiative, enthusiasm and effective time management skills to perform assigned duties and manage time efficiently without constant direct supervision
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and demonstrated sound judgment
  • Demonstrated commitment to self-directed learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
