Community Programs Assistant

Job Status: Seasonal Contract, May 4 – August 14, 2026 

Compensation: $20.23 per hour (plus 4% in vacation pay) 

Number of Positions: 1 vacancy, contingent upon approval of Canada Summer jobs funding  

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week including evenings and weekends 

Location: UTRCA, 1424 Clarke Road, London

The Community Programs Assistant helps deliver engaging, curriculum-based environmental education programs and community events across UTRCA's conservation areas, while supporting program logistics, resource preparation, safety procedures, and other initiatives. In this role, the individual leads activities like nature hikes and workshops to foster environmental awareness and community involvement. 

 

This role is contingent upon funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program, to be approved April 2026. Funding will be confirmed prior to an offer being made. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Working with lesson plans and support from staff, the Community Programs Assistant will implement age-appropriate, curriculum-based environmental education programs and community involvement opportunities designed to foster environmental awareness and appreciation; 

  • Help develop and deliver interactive environmental education programs for visitors to Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas, including nature hikes, hands-on activities, and outreach events; 

  • Support community engagement by assisting with public events, workshops, and outreach initiatives; 

  • Assist with program logistics, including material preparation, setup, and takedown, as well as maintaining education resources; 

  • Contribute to research and writing projects to improve program accessibility and inclusivity; 

  • Ensure participant safety and follow risk management procedures during program delivery. 

 

Qualifications 

  • This position is funded through Canada Summer Job Program; therefore candidates must meet the following criteria: 

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) 

  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act 

  • Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations 

  • Post-secondary education in Teaching, Environmental Studies, Geography, Biology or related program; 

  • Must be available to work some evening and weekends; 

  • Computer skills in event planning / ticketing platforms (ie Eventbrite), design software (ie. Canva, Adobe) and social media (Instagram, Facebook) an asset; 

 

 Certifications, Memberships, Licenses 

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License  

  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate 

 

Background Check Requirements 

  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory police vulnerable sector check (VSC) prior to commencement of employment.
