Discovery Lab Facilitator
The London Children’s Museum is looking for a highly creative, organized, enthusiastic, and engaging Discovery Lab Facilitator to join our team. Working with the Visitor Experiences Team, the Discovery Lab Facilitator ensures visitors have positive and memorable STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) experiences within the Discovery Lab exhibit. Located within our new home at 100 Kellogg Lane, the Discovery Lab is an interdisciplinary exhibit designed for visitors to take part in STEAM-based creativity through woodworking, coding, making, crafting, designing, experimenting, and hacking. In the Discovery Lab, visitors engage in self-directed making, collaborative projects, and staff-facilitated workshops. Our new team member will identify with and exemplify our organizational values, which are: Stay Curious, Be Awesome, Be Helpful, Dream Big, Include Everyone and Have Fun.

Position: Part-time seasonal contract, starting May 25, 2026, and ending September 7, 2026 (with opportunity for extension); 20-37.5 hours weekly; weekday, weekend and evening shifts available. 

Compensation: $18.00/hour

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging hands-on STEAM-based programs, including public programs and workshops, for children and families within the Discovery Lab exhibit
  • Model the maker mindset by enthusiastically and thoughtfully engaging families in STEAM-based programs that encourage creativity, curiosity and critical thinking skills
  • Create a safe and welcoming environment by maintaining Discovery Lab cleanliness, tidiness and overall organization
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Discovery Lab, including program facilitation, equipment maintenance, checking in and out tools, inventorying, and cleaning
  • Ensure Discovery Lab programs and experiences are safe, accessible, and inclusive
  • Provide technical support and assist visitors and volunteers in the safe operation of tools and specialized equipment 
  • Assist with the maintenance and use of specialized equipment, including robotics, hand tools, etc. 
  • Provide exceptional visitor experience and customer service
  • Be a helpful, positive, and engaged member of the London Children’s Museum team
  • Other duties as required

Skills:
  • Experience in STEAM programming, makerspace activities, basic coding, and/or art-based programming
    • Ability to learn and use different tools and hardware (I.e. sewing machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, Makedo kits etc.)
    • Knowledge of common makerspace technologies (I.e. Raspberry Pi, Microbit, Makey Makey etc.)
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Enthusiasm for the experiential learning philosophy practiced by the London Children’s Museum and a desire to work in a distinctly child-centred environment
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills
  • Safety-oriented; Child & Infant First Aid and CPR training are considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and decision-making
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment where you need to problem-solve and think flexibly
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills

Position Requirements:
  • Valid Vulnerable sector screening (police check)
  • Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person to who refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada following relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and some evenings
