In July 1996, with the direction, guidance, and compassion of many caring individuals, Lindey and David McIntyre established the Bethanys Hope Foundation, in honour of their daughter, with the purpose of developing fundraising mechanisms that could help support imperative research for the rare Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD). To date, Bethanys Hope Foundation, with the help of our dedicated partners and numerous volunteers, have raised over $4 million for research.  This research has resulted in significant breakthroughs, but there is still much work to be done.
 
At Bethanys Hope Foundation, we are committed to conducting research into the cause, control, and cure of MLD. We are also passionate about public education and publication about MLD, and will continue to give hope to children and their families who suffer with the devastation of Leukodystrophy.
 
About the Role
 
The Fundraising Associate role is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our team, and our multitude of volunteers and supporters in continuing to serve and give hope to children and their families suffering with MLD, while also passionately working to raise the funds needed to push research forward and ultimately discover a cure.
 
The Fundraising Associate is a multi-faceted role that is designed for one who relishes the challenges and gratification of supporting targeted fundraising efforts, while also providing administrative proficiency and genuine client relationship expertise.
 
Some of the opportunities you will have in this role include:
  • Maintaining individual donor and sponsor files and fund development related databases;
  • Developing regular donor stewardship reports;
  • Managing logistics for all mail merges and direct mail campaigns;
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining a social media strategy;
  • Supporting the creation, development, and implementation of fundraising and stakeholder appreciation events and activities;
  • Conducting research to create and maintain a contact list of MLD support organizations and connections across Canada;
  • Creating a database of grant funding opportunities and exploring intentional and strategic relationships with foundations;
  • Securing funds through the writing and completion of grant applications;
  • Cultivating and strengthening relationships with new and existing donors and sponsors with a focus on ensuring financial support of the organization;
  • Providing articulate and thorough responses to donor inquiries;
  • Supporting the creation and implementation of marketing materials including fundraising letters, annual reports, and regular donor updates; and
  • Supporting day-to-day projects of the organization.

Here are some of the qualifications and qualities we hope to find in the one that we will invite to join our team:
  • Proven experience in a fund development role;
  • Post-Secondary education with a combination of education, training, and experience in a not-for-profit and fundraising environment;
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications;
  • Strong understanding of the value of collaboration and the ability to bring creativity to tasks that move the team and mission ahead in positive ways;
  • Dynamic, positive, and energetic personality with the ability, determination, and courage to push through any barriers to success;
  • Experience and savvy with various forms of social media;
  • Exceptional customer/donor relation skills including a strong telephone presence;
  • Capacity to influence and impact an audience through written and verbal communication;
  • Independent thinker and able to take initiative and think critically to anticipate the needs of stakeholders;
  • Highly organized with the ability to actively participate in supporting various office tasks and event responsibilities; and
  • Passionate about making a difference in the lives of those impacted by MLD.
