Opportunity:

Coldstream Concrete is looking to add a Health and Safety Supervisor to our Human Resources Team. This role is highly collaborative and is well suited for someone who is pursuing a career in a dynamic manufacturing environment and who is passionate about creating a positive culture around workplace safety.

Job Summary:

The Health and Safety Supervisor is responsible for all aspects in the development and execution of the Company's health and safety programs.  This position provides leadership and supervision of safe work practices for all employees, with a strong focus on safety within the production facility along with precast manufacturing processes.  

Key Responsibilities:

H&S Program Management and Training (50%)


- Develop and execute the Company’s safety programs and ensure that they are delivered according to each program’s policies and procedures. 
Safety programs include but are not limited to:  Lockout/Tagout, Suspended Load/Crane, Forklift, PPE, Fit Testing, Designated Substances Control Programs, and Hazard Assessments.
Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through measures such as audit, observation and tracking incident reports.
- Regularly evaluate program policies and procedures for compliance with applicable legislation and standards in Ontario, including Employment Standards Act (ESA), Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
- Develop and facilitate safety training to new and existing employees throughout the employment cycle, including orientation, job transfers, cross-training and refresher training.
- Management of JHSC activities, including the inspection schedule and quarterly meetings.

Incident Reporting, Disability Management & Prevention (25%)

- Manage and cordinate processes related to occupational injury/illness, including return-to-work planning through WSIB.
- Manage injury/incident/near miss events, including data collection and reporting.  Ensure incidents are communicated effectively.
- Facilitate Company health and safety events and presentations. 
- Conduct risk assessments in collaboration with the JHSC.

Administrative and other duties (25%)

- Complete documentation relating to WSIB, Accommodations, and Return-to-work reports and programs.
- Create policies, procedures and other written material used to support safety programs.
- Maintain Health and Safety Communication Boards according to legislative requirements.
- Organize occupational hygiene assessments according to program policies and procedures.
- Maintain safety records (including training records).
- Asssit with employee onboarding activities relating to the Company's health and safety program.

Requirements:

- Undergraduate degree and/or Post Graduate certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years’ of progressive work experience in a health and safety role
- Experience working within a manufacturing and/or construction environment will be considered an asset

- Certified Joint Health & Safety as Management considered an asset
- Certification to train operations for forklift, crane, and/or lockout is considered an asset
Thorough knowledge of Ontario Safety regulations and legislation such as OHSA, CSA, ESA, AODA and OHRC
- Working knowledge of WSIB is an asset

Excellent writing skills with the ability to create organized and cohesive written materials
Time Management skills and ability to prioritize competing tasks.
- Ability to assess situations and make decisions using sound judgment.

- Strong verbal communication skills including ability to present training material to small and large groups
Effective relationship building skills with staff and management team..
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, PPT, Excel)

- Ability to conduct meetings using virtual meeting software.
Experience with HRIS Systems is an asset (ADP)
