Communications and Marketing Specialist

Our district is growing rapidly, and we are seeking an energetic Communications Specialist to join our team.
 
Reporting to the Communications and Public Relations Manager, the Communications and Marketing Specialist will support and foster the engagement of current and future students and their families through the development and execution of recruitment and retention marketing initiatives; website and social media strategies; and provide guidance and support for school outreach and marketing initiatives.

This role requires good judgment and the ability to protect confidential and privileged information. After hours and weekend availability required.


Major Responsibilities
  • Support efforts to increase internal and external engagement with staff, students, families and news media.
  • Collaborate with various departments as needed to develop multi-channel, forward-thinking communications and marketing strategies.
  • Assist with producing of a variety of internal and external publications.
  • Use a content management system to update the Board website and assist schools with their websites.
  • Draft and execute clear and compelling website and social media content, including graphic design, copy, video and photography assets consistent with the LDCSB brand.
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar and conduct social media monitoring to ensure continuous improvement of the LDCSB’s social media presence.
  • Being on-site at internal and external special events at various locations to capture video and photos (use of personal vehicle will be required).
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, Public Relations or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in communications, marketing or public relations (public sector preferred)
  • Excellent written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate messages in a professional and engaging manner
  • Project management familiarity, organizational abilities and time management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Final Cut and Canva
  • Familiarity in website management using a Content Management System (CMS)
  • Social media monitoring and content development experience, including the ability to design and implement a comprehensive social media strategy as well as creating and scheduling media and ad campaigns with associated content (graphics, videos, etc.)
  • Event planning, photography, videography and video editing skills would be an asset
  • Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
  • Demonstrated professional ethic and sensitivity for the confidential nature of the position
  • Possess an understanding and appreciation of the mission of a Catholic school system


Starting Salary
$45,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
