Finance Coordinator – Full Time

Job Description

Violence Against Women Services Elgin County offers 24-hour safety, emergency shelter, and counseling for women and children.  Each and every woman and child in need is able to count on our services in Aylmer, St. Thomas, and West Lorne. Help is immediate, informed, respectful, and compassionate.  Each year over 2,000 people find the help they seek.  We are seeking a highly-skilled candidate with a warm and steady presence coupled with a strong desire to work in the service of women who have been abused and their children and our community.

Responsibilities include:

Finances
  • Maintain effective systems of financial control for the agency
  • Develop the annual operating budget with the Executive Director
  • Monitor budget revenue and expenditures on a monthly basis
  • Create monthly financial statements and generate analytical reports for the Executive Director
  • Complete bank deposits, remittances, reconciliations, accounts payable, payroll, & benefit administration
  • Complete all purchasing, per procurement policies, to meet service and administrative needs

Reporting
  • Complete year-end reconciliation for the agency, auditor, and funders
  • Complete all funder & agency reporting requirements with accuracy and within timelines established

Record Keeping
  • Maintain effective human resource systems including employment contracts & personnel records  
  • Complete monthly updates to the service database regarding utilization, service pictures, and evaluation of services and generate analytical reports for the Executive Director
  • Complete monthly updates to the database for donor stewardship and tax receipting purposes
  • Ensure effective systems and secure storage for all agency records including service and evaluation data, funder and donor reporting requirements, financial and personnel records

Qualifications necessary:
 
  • Commitment to the agency vision, mission, and values
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with work experience in a non-profit preferred
  • Relevant post-secondary education with preference given to those with an Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance or in process of completing CPA designation
  • Extensive knowledge of current non-profit accounting practices and experience with budgeting
  • Strong analytical ability necessary to evaluate systems, identify trends, forecast, recommend and implement strategies to enhance financial best practices and performance
  • Evident high ethical standards, mature judgment, and ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues in a professional manner that is attentive to safety needs, management of risk, and responsibilities of an administrative team 
  • Advanced organization, planning, & communication skills to predict, initiate, prioritize, & manage work
  • Excellent computer skills including advanced knowledge of Excel, Access, and QuickBooks
  • Consistent attention to detail, accuracy, and timely action in all areas of job responsibility
