Under the direction of the Maintenance Leader or designate, the Plumber is responsible for:

  • Conducting the duties of a Plumber as laid out by the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act and in accordance with the Plumbing Code and By-Laws to protect against injury, facility damage and school day losses.

  • Performing skilled plumbing-related work associated with drainage and sanitary sewage systems, domestic water systems, hydronic heating/cooling systems, gas distribution systems, water purification systems, vacuum systems and other related systems at a variety of locations.

  • Performing diagnostics and testing systems to comply with government regulations.

  • Servicing and repairing boiler systems, science labs and piping systems.

  • Develop maintenance plan and shut-down/start-up plans for boiler systems.

  • Test appliances and gas systems to meet Technical Standards and Safety Act.

  • Responding to all emergencies regarding plumbing, water and septic systems.

  • Ensuring that water readings are within guidelines required by government

  • Installing plumbing or mechanical systems in new construction.

  • Operating a Board vehicle and complying with maintenance and safety guidelines

  • Enhancing customer satisfaction through meeting with school staff and supervisors, suppliers and contractors to provide cost estimate, schedule work, and outline safety requirements.

  • Assisting other tradespeople with projects and heavy equipment

  • Checking work of other maintenance staff and contractors

  • Ordering materials from suppliers

  • Prepare time sheet and work orders

  • Receiving, tracking, monitoring and reporting status of maintenance work orders

  • Maintaining all assigned tools


  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Certified and Registered Plumber (306A) as recognized by the Ontario College of Trades (or Provincial/Territorial equivalent with Red Seal Endorsement (RSE))

  • Certified and Registered Gas Technician 2 (G2) as recognized by Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA)

  • Valid Ontario Drivers’ License.

  • Five (5) years previous experience working as a Plumber in a large commercial, industrial or institutional setting.

RATE OF PAY:             $30.53 per hour
HOURS OF WORK:    1500 – 2300 with a ½ hour paid lunch
