Job Description
Southwest Middlesex Health Centre is a teaching clinic and a FHO providing primary care in Mount Brydges, Ontario. We are looking for a Pharmacy Manager to provide leadership and direct clinical support to patients by collaborating with them, their families and other health care providers. This individual would be responsible for the safe provision of prescription and non-prescription medications, and would assist in the educational process of medical students and residents, while providing direct supervision of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants.
Responsibilities / Daily Tasks
Counsels Patients
- Conducts medication reviews and health management consultations
- Participates in the resolution of complex drug-related issues by assessing and consulting with the patient and physician and makes recommendations to resolve the issue
- Identifies and discusses the management of possible side effects of medications
- Discusses possible drug interactions
- Confirms patients’ understanding of their medications
Prescription Preparation
- Dispenses medications in accordance with the standards set by the OCP by reviewing and interpreting doctor’s orders
- Evaluates prescriptions by ensuring their authenticity
- Identifies, resolves and prevents medication-related issues/risks
- Selects appropriate medication
- Completes a final check to ensure accuracy
- Reviews and extends prescriptions refills when considered appropriate
- Updates patient profiles in Propel software system as required
Provides pharmacological information by addressing questions and requests from health care professionals
Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with Health & Safety regulations, SMHC policies and procedures, the Ontario College of Pharmacists regulations and the Narcotics and Controlled Drug Act regulations
Legally responsible for direct clinical supervision of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants
Acts as a resource for clinic staff and assists in training staff
Supports the Centre's teaching requirements by training pharmacy students and pharmacy technician students
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
Assesses patients to determine if self-medication is indicated
Performs other related duties as required
Skills & Qualifications
- Must be registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) and injection certified
- Training in minor ailments, and able to prescribe for minor ailments
- Minimum 3 years of experience working as a pharmacist within a clinical setting
- Commitment to uphold ethical, legal and professional responsibilities
- Current pharmacological knowledge, and ongoing attendance of educational workshops and/or training
- Working knowledge of paperless Propel software
- Completion of all mandatory training (e.g., WHMIS, Health and Safety) and CPR certification
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Patient-focused
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Knowledge of third-party insurance drug plans
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills, and ability to work and lead in a team environment with other health care professionals, patients and the community
- Excellent judgement and ability to analyze information and situations
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50.00-$56.00 per hour
