GIS Student (Seasonal/Co-op)
June 1, 2021 – September 3, 2021

Reporting to Director of Asset Management and Development, the GIS Student is responsible to update and expand our existing geospatial database. This position will primarily be a data driven experience by investigating and identifying where existing assets are not spatially captured and/or updating associated missing attributes. They will also be integral in helping to expand our existing geospatial inventory to include departmental assets that have not been captured in previous years. This position will be a combination of office and field work. Main duties and responsibilities in the areas of updating GIS inventory and infrastructure and data entry.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with updating the Municipality’s GIS inventory of Parks and Recreation, Water/Wastewater and Roads assets via field investigation using ArcGIS Collector and Survey 123 applications.
  • Collaboration with the Water/Wastewater Department to help identify and locate infrastructure that is missing from the GIS database (curb stops/valves). This will include field investigation using ArcGIS Collector and an external GPS antenna.
  • Update the Municipality’s engineering related infrastructure in the GIS database (Water, Sanitary and Storm) using As-Constructed drawings. This may include uploading CAD drawings or geo-referencing PDF’s with subsequent digitization.
Experience
  • Enrolled in (or recent graduate) of a College or University with studies primarily related to GIS.
  • Experience using Esri’s software (ArcMap, ArcCatalog) is essential. Further working knowledge of ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Collector, and ArcGIS Survey123 would be an asset.
  • Experience and/or general understanding of GPS technology.
  • Practical experience in Municipal GIS would be an asset.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings would be asset.
  • High attention to detail and data entry are essential.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and report on data, with a passion for delivering outstanding work.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, planning and organizing skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities and work both independently and with collaborative teamwork.
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s license in good standing
Hourly Rate $18.75/hr – 40 hour work week
