Job Description
Agilus is recruiting a Manager, Group Web and Mobile Development for a medium sized Insurance firm located in Southwestern Ontario.
As Manager, Group Web and Mobile Development supporting our Group Benefits line of business, you will lead a diverse group of talented, engaged and fun professionals. As Manager, you will be crucial to the success and productivity of the team - a team that is critical to supporting the ability to evolve and maintain our mobile and digital presence.
This is a hands-on role: you will wear both the hat of a manager and a developer, working to deliver new experiences that delight our customers as well as maintaining our critical digital assets.
What You Will Do
- Lead and manage a team of talented, engaged developers (6-7 people) to create solutions for current and future needs in a digital world.
- Familiarity with a number of different languages including C#, Angular, various JavaScript frameworks, API development and integration, HTML, React, and experience with native mobile app development
- You are familiar with best practices in the UI/UX space
- You can wear both a developer and designer hat as needed
- Support Project Managers and other department leaders to create reliable and achievable project/product plans.
- Code! You will also be able to jump in and use your strong development skills to move projects forward as needed. (30% estimation effort)
- Work with the team to estimate work, assess risk, and provide effective delivery plans.
- Plan for resources (headcount) required to fulfill project and support needs, and to optimize productivity.
- Inspire and mentor the team to innovate and continuously improve and learn.
- Review system designs to provide strong technical design principles.
- Work with team and senior management to develop and implement robust strategic technical direction for web and mobile development, including technologies, priorities, practices and processes.
- Demonstrate leadership and people management skills in an Agile software development framework.
- Continue to elevate our software engineering practices to build, test, and release software faster, reliably, securely, and enjoyably.
What You'll Need
- up to 10+ years' experience in an technical team lead position
- 3-5+ years' experience in a development management position
- Proven experience leading people and their performance with a positive, collaborative, and hands-on approach.
- A product engineering mindset
- You know what it takes to build a first class digital product
- Deep knowledge and experience with modern web and mobile development tools, frameworks, processes with the MS stack (C#. Net, and modern JS frameworks such as
- React or Angular.
- Azure experience is a great asset.
- Experience implementing new development practices and processes to improve software engineering effectiveness and quality.
- Excellent team leadership, communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational and communication skills
- Post-secondary education in computer science or equivalent work experience
