Job Description
The Purchaser will source and buy materials, goods and service on behalf of the North Pole Trim and Supply to be resold or used in daily operations. The Purchaser will maintain stock levels and may also conduct research, negotiate with vendors and interview prospective suppliers.
The Purchaser position is available due to a leave of absence and will temporarily report to the Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete all areas outlined for this position in a satisfactory manner.
- Ensure that a safe and positive work environment and culture is maintained.
- Evaluates inventory needs of assigned products and completes orders.
- Obtain quotes on special items or products for custom orders; quotes to customer and orders if necessary.
- Deliver sales orders to internal contacts when product received to enable customer notification of product delivery.
- Ensures that special orders are properly identified to be ordered correctly and properly priced.
- Notify Receiving of pending large special orders to be staged and tagged.
- Notify shipping of special-order material that requires special shipping arrangements (i.e. Rush) considering efficient truck shipments.
- Negotiates purchase agreements in cooperation with the Purchasing Manager and or President.
- Issues purchase orders for assigned products.
- Maintains records for filing, partially filled and unfilled orders.
- Ensures computer accuracy on outstanding orders.
- Maintains suppliers’ catalogs and current pricing for assigned products.
- Performs regular vendor analysis on current vendors and prospective vendors for pricing, service and quality.
- Make corrections on purchase orders, receiving and vendor invoices for received merchandise.
- Expedites shipments for emergencies.
- Notifies the Sales Department of discontinued and/or new items.
- Works with the Sales Department to prepare the inventory for any special temporary needs or changing trends in demand.
- Maintains up to date pricing in the computer on assigned products.
- Achieves and maintains inventory turns on assigned products consistent with Company goals for return on investment.
- Assists the Purchasing Assistant Manager, COO and/or the President in keeping competitive pricing and profit margins on assigned products.
- Works with the sales and management staff to resolve customer complaints on assigned products.
- Files claims for damage or overcharges on assigned products
- Notify Purchasing Assistant Manager or COO of trends, issues that are critical to the organization’s financial performance.
- Ensuring organization of paperwork and filed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Champions and supports continuous improvement initiatives to promote a low cost / common sense culture.
- Ensure quality customer service through personal interaction with internal and external contacts. Resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Observe and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and collaboration with other team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Required: High School Diploma required. Diploma, Certificate in Supply Chain and/or Logistics, Business, Procurement or other relevant credentials or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 - 3-years’ purchasing experience in a lumber, building or construction supply industry preferred.
- Proficient technical systems and computer skills required such as, Microsoft, Enterprise Resource Systems, Point of Sales systems and other relevant systems.
- Math skills including calculation projections and statistical analysis.
- Above average reading and writing skills.
- Strong administration and communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving and demonstrate initiative. Determining “how” rather than “if”.
- Be an approachable team player.
- Consistent ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet timely deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment.
- Accepts responsibility and accountability for their role.
- Flexible to work additional hours as business needs require.
