Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator II assists the Animal Ethics and Care Program (AECP) by supporting the reliability, security, and ongoing access to its software systems by coordinating configuration updates, access requests, and audit-ready records in collaboration with Western Research leaders. Additionally, the Program Coordinator II is responsible for coordinating software updates, facilitating user access and permissions, and providing first-level technical support to staff. The role also monitors system performance, troubleshoots issues within established procedures, and collaborates with other Departments to ensure seamless integration of software solutions.

Qualifications
Education:

  • 2 year Community College Diploma in Computer Systems, Systems Administration or related field
  • Courses in Biology, Animal Science or related field to understand animal strains, breeding colony management and related activities preferred
Experience:
  • 2 years’ experience supporting operational leaders and providing client-facing systems support
  • Experience supporting the coordination of software implementation projects in a large complex organization
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting enterprise applications and relational databases, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting systems related to animal care or other research activities is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Familiarity with system administration, including computer networks, operating systems, and applications software (including those used in an animal ethics and care program preferred)
  • Knowledge of best practices for handling sensitive and confidential information and with best practices in records maintenance
  • Knowledge of animal strains, breeding colony management, animal-based research environments preferred
  • Ability to work and perform activities within an animal facility environment
  • Computer skills with the ability to train others in system usage
  • Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise procedural and technical documentation
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with non-technical users
  • Client service skills with an ability to apply tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues and a range of personalities, motives and interests
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple assignments that are accurate and thorough, sometimes of a complex nature or involving competing priorities
  • Intermediate proficiency required in Microsoft Office in order to prepare emails, reports and documents, and to input data into spreadsheets and databases
  • Familiarity with software applications used by Western preferred – e.g. PeopleSoft, Mustang Market
