Woodshop Speciaist

Pathways Employment Help Centre (PEHC) unleashes people’s potential through Employment, Skills Training and Advocacy. The London Community Woodshop (LCW) is the only public woodshop in London and area. It is a place where community members can learn new woodworking skills, build projects for their home or business, and connect with other woodworkers. Pathways Employment Help Centre is currently hiring a LCW Woodshop Specialist.
Job Description: Reporting to the Woodshop Coordinator, the Woodshop Specialist will work with the LCW team to perform day-to-day operations, assist shop members, and promote a safe and inclusive shop environment. The successful candidate will be able to work independently when required, engage positively with prospective and existing shop members, and possess fundamental woodworking skills and experience.
Position Responsibilities:

Positively represent the shop and provide information and orientation to new and prospective shop members
Monitor and support safe and proper use of tools and machinery
Execute custom woodworking projects and special orders of varying scale and complexity
Assist with classes, shop programs, and community events
Foster a supportive and inclusive culture of learning with a passion for woodworking
Administer membership policies and practices to maintain an open and fair environment
Assist with shop maintenance, organization, and upkeep

Qualifications:

Proficiency in woodworking and understanding of fundamental skills and techniques is required
Post-secondary education (completed or in progress) or equivalent experience is considered an asset
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to multitask, respond to emergent needs, and dynamically prioritize changing tasks in response to evolving deadlines
Proactive problem-solving skills
Comfort engaging with diverse community members of all skill and experience levels
Attention to detail, thoroughness, and commitment to safety
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset
