Job Description

Summary of Duties

Responsible for the delivery of Ontario Works and related services. Helps ensure program accountability through recruitment, training, coaching, and all other aspects of performance management of their staff team as well as the management of any assigned purchase of service contracts.

Work Performed

  • Liaises with internal and external clients, organizations, and government ministries to make sure that the highest quality services are delivered effectively and efficiently.

  • Maintains expertise, and ensure staff proficiency and compliance, in required areas of provincial legislation, directives, municipal policies, and local procedures.

  • Supervise and coach assigned personnel: responsible for staffing, employee development, performance appraisals, and conduct matters.

  • Assesses work priorities, assign resources, and exercises delegated authority.

  • Makes decisions regarding complex cases, internal reviews, and appeals.

  • Helps to develop and implement short and long term business objectives and procedures that support a strong service system.

  • Acts as a resource to various committees and participate in community group meetings.

  • Participates in various assigned projects and initiatives.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Successful completion of a degree in Social Sciences, Counselling, Business, or Public Administration or other related discipline.

  • Three to five years of leadership experience in a similar role.

Specialized Training & Licenses

  • Knowledge of the Ontario Works Act and Directives.

  • Proven leadership abilities demonstrating a capacity to supervise and support staff and manage services in a dynamic work environment.

  • Demonstrated success as a change agent which has included utilization of leadership and facilitation skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the cultural values and norms of various communities, and the social and economic issues that impact the lived experience of citizens.

  • Computer literacy and technology proficiency.

  • Flexibility with a high level of initiative and self-direction.

  • Ability to manage multiple and competing demands.

  • Languages other than English an asset.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation and Other Information

$76,888 to $104,260
