Shipping Coordinator - Afternoon Shift

The Shipping Coordinator plays an important role in ensuring our products are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time while providing excellent service to our customers.

 

This posting is for a new position within the organization.

 

The regular work schedule is: Monday to Wednesday 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., and Thursday 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. This position is compensated based on a 42-hour work week.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Organize and coordinate trucking requirements for Steelway and ExSteel products from our Springwater and Progress Drive facilities
  • Schedule deliveries using company-owned trucks and external carriers
  • Coordinate loads, loading schedules, and shipping priorities with the Shipping and Receiving Manager
  • Work directly with customers to coordinate delivery schedules and requirements
  • Ensure shipments are scheduled and dispatched on time to support excellent customer service
  • Source and arrange external freight while considering cost, reliability, timing, and service
  • Maintain relationships with transportation providers and support competitive freight pricing
  • Assign loading sequences to support safe and efficient loading and off-loading at customer locations
  • Communicate loading requirements and priorities to truck loaders and the Shipping and Receiving team
  • Prepare and maintain accurate shipping documentation, including packing slips, purchase orders, bills of lading, and other required paperwork
  • Coordinate incoming freight requirements and backhaul opportunities with Purchasing
  • Arrange courier services and coordinate order preparation, pickup, and required documentation
  • Coordinate domestic, cross-border, and international shipping requirements as required
  • Monitor shipments and proactively address delays, scheduling conflicts, carrier issues, and changing customer requirements
  • Maintain accurate shipping information and complete required data entry within company systems
  • Ensure shipping activities comply with applicable transportation and Ministry of Transportation requirements
  • Provide backup support to the Shipping and Receiving Manager as required
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to shipping, scheduling, freight costs, and transportation processes

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain, business, or a related field is considered an asset
  • Previous experience in shipping, freight, transportation, logistics, or a manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Experience coordinating carriers, deliveries, and freight is preferred
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, and time-management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changing schedules and requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively resolve shipping and transportation issues
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with customers, carriers, drivers, and internal teams
  • Knowledge of proper loading and transportation procedures is an asset
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Transportation requirements and applicable transportation regulations is an asset
  • Understanding of cross-border and international shipping and export requirements is an asset
  • Experience with ERP or manufacturing software systems is an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with changing priorities
