Quality Inspector Weld

Salary: $35/hr to $42/hr / hr

HCR Permanent Search is partnering with a well-established manufacturing company located in the Stratford area.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Welding Quality Inspector ensures fabricated assemblies meet engineering drawings, AWS D1.1/CWB standards, and customer requirements. This role oversees in-process and final inspections, weld audits, welder testing/certifications, and root cause corrective actions to drive continuous quality improvement.

 

Work Setting: On Site

Shift Schedule: Days

Location Details: Stratford, Ontario

 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

 

  • Experience: 3–5 years in heavy fabrication and structural welding environments.
  • Education & Certifications: Diploma in Welding Technology/Engineering (or equivalent experience); CWB Level I/II or Supervisor certification preferred.
  • Standards Expertise: In-depth knowledge of AWS D1.1, CWB standards, blueprints, weld symbols, and GD&T.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with quality core tools (ISO 9001, PPAP, FMEA), inspection gauges, micrometers/calipers, and MS Office.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to walk/stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in shop environments.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Inspection & Audits: Perform in-process, final, FAI, and PPAP inspections on assemblies; conduct scheduled weld cell audits.
  • Welder Qualifications: Administer AWS D1.1/CWB welder testing, requalifications, and maintenance of compliance records.
  • Quality Assurance & RCA: Lead defect investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions to reduce scrap/rework.
  • Training & Coaching: Coach production staff on weld quality standards, WPS compliance, and inspection procedures.
  • Quality Systems: Support ISO 9001, APQP, FMEA, and Control Plan requirements.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain inspection records, material traceability documentation, non-conformance reports, and welder certification records. Support internal, customer, and third-party audits while ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 quality requirements.
