Youth Mentor

Since 1949, TVCC has been working with children and youth to help them reach their full potential. Today, a wide range of services and supports are provided for young people with physical disabilities, communication disorders, developmental delays and autism spectrum disorders to support them in attaining the best available quality of life and health. In partnership with local and regional agencies, TVCC annually serves more than 11,000 children, youth and their families from birth to age 19 across Southwestern Ontario in over 700 locations. 

We are recruiting for a regular, part time (22.5 hours per week) Youth Mentor to fill an upcoming vacancy in the Early Childhood, School Age and Adolescent Program. The Youth Mentor will support Family and Community Services and will work collaboratively within Horizons, services for youth, and with others across the organization to support youth engagement and transition to adulthood. The designated office for this position is London. This position is expected to begin in August 2026.


Services are provided in Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Huron, Perth, Grey and Bruce counties. A flexible work schedule is required, including some work on evenings and weekends. 


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with supporting youth services both in-person and virtually within the Tiered Model of Service 
  • Assist with the development of accessible resources for youth with disabilities and their families;
  • Assist youth in understanding and effectively using available resources;
  • Support project-based work to create services and pathways for youth at TVCC;
  • Facilitate and coordinate events for clients to build social and life skills, including gathering of feedback from TVCC youth to inform youth event planning
  • Elicit feedback and input from TVCC youth by co-leading TVCC’s Youth Advisory Council, Trailblazers and subcommittees;
  • Assist with the development of best practices and evidence informed services (e.g. literature review); 
  • Connect with youth in a variety of group settings (e.g., community, video conference, Centre, etc.); 
  • Assist with the creation and execution of social media posts and Youth News e-blasts; 
  • Administrative tasks such as Planning Calendar, grant reports or tasks as requested by the FACS manager; 
  • Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the service.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year post-secondary education in a related field;
  • Personal lived experience with a disability (e.g., physical disability, communication disorder, developmental disability, autism spectrum disorder);
  • Demonstrated skill in Solution Focused Coaching;
  • Ability to provide youth peer support and mentoring in a group setting;
  • Knowledge of diversity and appreciation of families’ individual needs;
  • Demonstrated initiative, creative problem solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision; 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, or equivalent with assistive devices or assistive technology, including the ability to communicate effectively in groups and individually;
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and peers and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; 
  • Computer proficiency including Office 365 and experience with virtual and social networking platforms (Teams, Facebook, Instagram, etc.);
  • Travel within the London area is required. The ability to travel within Southwestern Ontario would be considered an asset.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification;
  • Ability to provide services in French would be an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.


Salary Range:    $25.77 - $28.11/hour
