Business Analyst


Classification & Regular Hours

Hours per Week: 35

Salary Grade: 14

The base salary will be $67,680 - $96,590 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Please note, this position is a 1-year temporary full-time contract opportunity.

About Us
Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central Department committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where appropriate.

Responsibilities
The Business Analyst supports Western Technology Services (WTS) through the analysis, documentation, and improvement of business processes, systems, and service delivery initiatives. Working in partnership with the WTS Project Management Group and business stakeholders across the University, the role gathers and analyzes business requirements, facilitates stakeholder engagement, supports project planning activities, and helps ensure business needs are effectively translated into technology solutions. This position will provide dedicated analytical capacity to support organizational priorities and key institutional initiatives, while contributing to successful project outcomes through requirements gathering, process analysis, testing coordination, documentation, and change support activities.

Qualifications

Education:

  • University degree in Business, Information Systems, Technology, Administration, or a related field
  • Formal training in business analysis methodologies, process improvement, project management, or equivalent experience
  • IIBA Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA), Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), PMI-PBA, or equivalent preferred
  • Certification or training in project management, change management, or business process improvement methodologies preferred
Experience:
  • 3 years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, process improvement, project support, or a related business partnering role
  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements for technology-enabled solutions
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups and facilitating requirements discussions
  • Experience supporting enterprise technology or digital transformation initiatives preferred
  • Experience within a higher education, public sector, or complex organizational environment preferred
  • Experience working within formal project management and software development environments preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of business analysis methodologies, tools, and best practices
  • Ability to document current and future-state business processes using process mapping techniques
  • Strong requirements elicitation, documentation, and validation skills
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear and actionable requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical users, including senior leadership
  • Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize, consistently producing high-quality work and meeting deadlines in a demanding environment
  • Strong digital literacy and data fluency, with advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency in project, document, and resource management systems (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Miro, or similar)
  • Understanding of change management and user adoption principles
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, customer service, and collaborative teamwork
  • Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with clients, peers, and external stakeholders
