Health & Safety Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policy/procedures.
  • Support Health & Safety Team by promoting a strong safety culture across all operations.
  • Support the Health & Safety Team by conducting site inspections and administrative audits to ensure legislative compliance for all of Bre-Ex’s operations.
  • Investigation of incidents, near misses, documentation and action items.
  • Completion of reports related to WSIB, return to work programs, and correspondence.
  • Leader of WSIB Program of Excellence activities.
  • Delivery of safety orientations, training sessions, coaching & mentoring of H&S related material.
  • Evaluation of practices, procedures and systems to assess risk and adherence to regulations.
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new preventative measures.
  • Report on health & safety awareness, issues and statistics.
  • Assist with regulatory body visits and correspondence.
  • Coordinate and champion JHSC activities.
  • Review, improve, and provide health & safety standards, procedures, policies and forms Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate safety documentation.
  • Assist with employee training safety meetings and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Stay current on health and safety legislation industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with all team members to promote safe work practices.
  • General administrative and clerical duties.

Working Conditions:

  • Working in an office environment, field offices and at sites
  • Traveling as required for site visits, working in field locations
  • Working in a high-paced environment

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel, Projects, and Google Suite
  • Time Management and Organization Skills (pre-planning, multi-tasking, documentation)
  • Effective at problem solving and decision making
  • Positive and professional attitude
  • A self-motivated personality that can be successful independently and in a team
  • Familiarity with the heavy civil/ infrastructure construction industry
  • 1-3 years experience supporting health and safety programs, policies/procedures and best practices across multiple project sites and operational environments
  • Knowledge of Construction, Surface Mining, Transportation and Electrical Utility safety regulations and best practices an asset
  • JHSC Certified Member
  • Valid Ontario class G drivers’ license
