Part-time Faculty – Academic Upgrading (CTC 201600197)

Location:  St. Thomas
Employment Group:  Faculty
Hours of Work per Week:  Up to 6 hours per week. Some evenings will be required.   
Closing Date:  Open Until Filled
 
Note:  This is a part-time Faculty position (up to 6 hours per week) until March 31, 2017. 

Part-time Faculty at Fanshawe College are responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment for students.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Engaging students in the classroom and ensuring learner awareness of curriculum, their academic progression and evaluation of learning
  • Actively contributing to student success
  • Teaching English (Communication), Self-Management Self-Direction and Computers in a team environment in the Academic Upgrading program
  • Providing a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources based on the cooperative learning theory while incorporating a variety of teaching and learning strategies to meet various learning styles
  • Applying a variety of teaching and learning strategies to meet various learning needs of student’s particularly adult learners
  • Evaluating student progress and achievement using a variety of evaluative tools
  • Participating in learning resources selection
  • Completing required documentation and record keeping as per Ministry standards
  • Contributing to the regular and ongoing development of the Academic Upgrading Program

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills
  • A commitment to diversity and equity are essential to interact effectively with the diverse student population
  • The ability to convey the conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students, respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and individual learning styles is also essential, as is the desire to contribute to the education of the next generation of students    
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary 2 year diploma in Adult Education, Social Work, English, Math and/or Sciences
  • Minimum 3 years’ of recent and relevant experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered
  • Expertise in working in an adult learning environment
  • A commitment to education and teaching diverse student populations and working with students from various backgrounds 
    Individuals will need to demonstrate working with adults in a learning environment
