As the Manager, Digital Services, you will work within an integrated communications environment and report to the Associate Director of Marketing. The position is responsible for leading the management, development, day-to-day operations, and governance of Ivey’s external web properties and email campaigns. While juggling all of these responsibilities, you always stay focused on ensuring that the projects and tasks align with the School’s goals, mission, recruiting, and branding strategies.
You have a strong creative orientation rooted in digital brand experience, while also being detail-oriented, a strong planner and able to juggle multiple projects in a very fast-paced environment. You are highly organized and a skilled communicator and project management master. You have a strong understanding of the digital marketing and media landscape.

KEY RESULT AREAS:
  1. Plan, recommend and implement a comprehensive external facing digital communications platform strategy that supports the brand position of the Ivey Business School and the internal client needs of the many programs, centres, institutes, departments, and student groups at the school. This includes web sites, external email campaigns and social media accounts.
  1. Management of the day-to-day operations of the Digital Services team including project leadership, work load assignments and prioritization of requests sent to web@ivey.ca.
    This includes operating in an agile environment while managing the development backlog, constantly prioritizing items and delegating task to achieve the strategic goals that are in place for the school.
     
  2. Develop user experience strategies and project plans for internal web and digital projects. Major projects are managed in-house when there is insufficient budget to use an external agency. This includes management of internal resources and team leadership required for project execution. The Manager, Digital Services is the project leader on multiple projects at any given time.Her/his role as project leader includes defining the scope of the project, creating a project plan, assigning tasks, and managing the project through to completion.
     
  3. Serve as a Technical and Standards Advisor on all agency-led web and digital projects. This includes setting standards for the agencies to follow to ensure that new technologies will be compliant with our platforms.
     
  4. Identify, assess and recommend platform strategies for new and existing technologies with a goal toward improved performance or efficiency. There is a high expectation that the candidate in this role is constantly following platform and product innovations to ensure that our digital assets are optimized for changing technology.  When they are not, the Manager, Digital Services is required to research and recommend new solutions. The candidate will approve appropriate implementation of external facing digital platforms by all groups in the school.
     
  5. Build and strengthen inter-departmental relationships throughout the school’s web user groups including the establishment and increased transparency of digital objectives, processes, policies and standards. This includes education, training and support.
     
  6. Work with Associate Director of Marketing and Marketing Planning Specialist to integrate all of the web, email and digital marketing performance tools. Digital metric development, monitoring and support is critical for the measurement of Ivey’s extensive digital marketing and recruitment campaigns.
     
  7. Work closely with IT and business units to plan and execute website upgrades and product releases.
 
 
QUANTITATIVE AREAS OF IMPACT:
  1. Budget: Small project budgets managed with external vendors – 2-3 times a year and each will be valued at approximately $20,000 or less.
     
  2. Staff supervised: While there are no formal reporting relationships of full-time staff in this role, the Manager, Digital Services leads the day-to-day operations of the Digital Services team which includes work assignment for IT Developers, a Web Designer and co-op students.
     
  3. Other: The technological and SEO/SEM recommendations made by the Manager, Digital Service influence decisions at a strategic level and will impact program recruiting. Their accuracy and effectiveness are critical to success in this role.
 
MAIN ACTIVITIES:

ACTIVITIES WITH PRIMARY DECISION-MAKING RESPONSIBILITY:
  1. Prioritize multiple tasks and projects based on strategic priority and deadlines, including IT web team development backlog.
  2. Day-to-day activities pertaining to approved marketing strategy and digital strategy.
  3. Identifying opportunities for improvement in digital platform performance as well as monitoring potential risks in current solutions.
  4. Determine the best approach for training staff. Ensure those being trained are confident and capable with the new tool or software.
  5. Decide how and when to collect and give feedback to project stakeholders, including external vendors, to ensure project goals are met.
  6. Select web banner and digital assets for creative approval.
 
ACTIVITIES REQUIRING CONSULTATION AND/OR COOPERATION:
  1. Selection of external agency recommendations (SEO/SEM) to be implemented.
  2. Significant changes in approach to project management, web reporting, and general departmental process.
  3. Selection of new software and new product evaluations.
  4. Flag potential budget shortfalls or recommend reallocation of budget to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, including analysis and recommendation.
  5. Changes to digital marketing strategy or agreed upon activities with that strategy.
  6. Any budgetary decisions outside of the approved project budgets.
  7. Contractual and legal consultation for new purchases or items related for personal information.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


The incumbent should possess a university degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience managing web sites and leading the implementation of comprehensive web site communication plans including experience in general and digital communications, project management, information architecture, user experience design, digital media design, and social media strategy. The incumbent should also have experience working with web development and design teams.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Possesses a solid understanding and strategic perspective of evolving digital marketing principles and technologies, including websites, web metrics, campaign planning, social media, email, SEO, SEM and mobile.
  • Knowledgeable across both Marketing and Information Technology and able to coordinate projects and support communication across the two areas. Working together to achieve the broader goal.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate in a busy environment with competing priorities and tight deadlines. This includes effective delegation and reassignment of work as required based on talent and availability of teams.
  • Sound project management skills, including the ability to manage timelines, budgets, team dynamics and multiple stakeholders. Shows exceptional attention to detail combined with the ability to prioritize activities according to larger strategic goals.
  • Exhibits a proven track record of initiative and innovation in digital media, user experience, team leadership and project management.
  • Utilizes excellent follow-up and on-going communication skills to ensure that internal and external stakeholders are clear on deliverables, roles and responsibilities.
  • Displays exceptional interpersonal skills and a desire to build effective relationships. Relationship building is critical as a project and team leader in this role as it often requires leading team members who do not report to the incumbent and in many cases include members of the senior leadership team.
  • Possesses knowledge of the digital industry. It is expected that the incumbent will be highly knowledgeable of digital industry best practices.
  • Proficient with Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools. An understanding of AdWords is beneficial.
  • A good understanding of operating in an Agile environment.
  • Experience with content management systems (e.g., Umbraco & WordPress ideal), information architecture, user experience/accessibility and digital media.
  • Familiar with web accessibility legislation WCAG 2.0 and spam legislation.
  • Experience with marketing automation software an asset but not a requirement (Eloqua).
  • Familiar with responsive web design and frameworks (Bootstrap).
