Our automotive manufacturing facility in St. Thomas, Ontario is currently recruiting for a Powder Metal Manufacturing Engineer. Details of this position are as follows:

Role Purpose: Manages the design, improvement, and development of powder metal manufacturing projects. Leads process improvement and cost saving projects. Assesses and analyzes existing manufacturing processes and makes recommendations / implements the improvements.

 Duties and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads the analyses of operational data and process maps to identify improvement opportunities in Powder Metal processes.
  • Develops solution proposals including modifications to products or equipment to optimize the powder metal products and processes.
  • Develops project timelines/specifications, cost, resource requirements, and progress tracking to realize benefits.
  • Coordinates/leads the troubleshooting and design initiatives of all existing equipment and powder metals processes.
  • Coordinates mechanical and fixture design to support production, process engineering, maintenance, tool design, and product launch as needed.
  • Investigates and transfers best practices and process improvements to the production facility.
  • Facilitates continuous improvement activities and development of same.
  • Champions diversity and inclusion in line with Company guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision.

 Qualifications and education required: 

  • Manufacturing Engineering Technology College Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the Powder Metal (PM) industry with exposure to a manufacturing environment using a lean, cellular, and reduced inventory production system
  • Extensive knowledge of PM manufacturing processes including compacting, sintering, metallurgy, sizing pressing, hot pressing, and powder and mechanical property characterization.
  • Project Management Certification preferred

 Soft Skills and Other Competencies:

  • Understanding of powder flow within complex products and tooling configurations
  • Understanding the relationship between tool design, press functionality, and powder specifications to optimize processes
  • The ability to analyze processes, perform cost-benefit analysis of potential solutions, and implement the chosen solution
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent process analysis, conception and quantitative ability
  • Ability to teach, train, facilitate, and lead initiatives amongst a cross-functional team
  • Strong project management skills
  • Good planning and organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral / written communication skills to deal internal and external customers
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivator
  • Proficient in the English language

Compensation:

  • Wage range and details: $75,100 to $120,000. Merit increases are reviewed yearly and are based on performance.

  • Health, Dental, Extended Health, Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability (premiums for LTD are paid for by the individual).  The Company also offers a Defined Contribution Pension Plan with a 3% gift and a maximum 3% match based on employee contributions to the plan.
