Part-time Faculty – Curriculum Development and Community Engagement – First Nations Studies

Location:  London
Employment Group:  Faculty
Hours of Work per Week:   This is a flexible contract position with a defined number of curriculum development hours over a 12 month period.  Hours per week will vary.
Closing Date:  Open Until Filled
 
Note:  This is a part-time temporary faculty position starting May 2, 2016 and ending May 2, 2017.

Reporting to the Program Manager, School of Language and Liberal Studies, the incumbent will coordinate, guide, and work with Academic Managers, Faculty, Program Coordinators, the First Nations Centre and other College Staff to support the First Nations Studies program throughout the College. This position will also be involved in a variety of community activities and consultations, including acting as a liaison with local First Nations communities and organizations, providing outreach to local school boards, promoting the First Nations Studies program, and participating in new program development.
 
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Combination of excellent leadership and teaching skills with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student success
  • Excellent communicator
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of learners
  • Strong technical/computer skills and familiarity with educational technologies are required
  • Related industry work experience, previous college teaching experience and knowledge of curriculum design and student evaluations are assets   
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in First Nations Studies, Aboriginal Education, or related area preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross cultural skills to act as a liaison between the College and the local First Nations communities
  • Experience working with First Nations communities, Aboriginal organizations and Indigenous peoples
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Indigenous issues, values, Aboriginal worldview, cultural protocols, and learning styles
  • Experience in curriculum development with a focus on Indigenous pedagogy
  • Successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred
  • Teaching experience with hybrid and/or online delivery would be an asset
