Job Description

Mechanical Engineer
On behalf of my Engineering Consulting client in London we are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer with previous experience designing using the Ontario Building Code (OBC) for the Design Build Construction Industry. The ideal candidate would possess a Professional Engineering designation OR a registered Engineer in Training within approx. 1 year of obtaining Professional Engineering license.
Note: Salary bands are offered based on OSPE's recommended engineering salaries for Ontario
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Licensed P.Eng. – registered with PEO.
  • Minimum of 4 years of mechanical engineering design. Experience in consulting engineering, practical building systems design, experience in the residential and commercial sectors and private sector works would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Experienced in AutoCAD, experience with Revit would be an asset.
  • Carrier HAP software experience.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once.
  • Experience in site investigation and construction reviews.
  • Ability to work with clients, project managers, building operators, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Eagerness to learn and accept new challenges.
  • English speaking with proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Energy Modelling, and more specifically OBC SB-10 Energy Compliance experience would be an asset.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Designing air and water HVAC systems.
  • Designing plumbing systems.
  • Reviewing and Sealing project drawings.
  • Meet with design leads to develop conceptual design (ie. redline meetings). Identify any potential design issues and codes involved.
  • Working with project and design teams and assisting with delegation of project responsibilities.
  • Assist with and review of engineering design briefs.
  • Assist with and review estimated mechanical equipment costs and comparisons.
  • Set milestones and perform progress reviews during a project.
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines.
  • Communicate with clients, building owners, architects, contractors, utilities, building authorities and contractors.
  • Project management duties including assisting with proposals, responsible for projects from the initiating to closing phases and being main point of contact with project stakeholders.
  • Creating and/or reviewing alternative solutions and issuing letters addressing permit comments.
  • Prepare tender packages for procurement of equipment and installation.
  • Review shop drawings.
  • When required, assist field staff with general reviews during construction, prepare site instructions and change documents.
  • Specifications for projects as well as providing support to Engineering Team Lead in the organization of master mechanical specifications.
  • Work through construction support issues.
  • Review project verification requirements and critical items list with project lead and construction support staff.
  • Project verification review and preparing occupancy letters.
