Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Fleet Supervisor or designate, the Motor Vehicle Mechanic performs skilled mechanical service, inspection and repair activities on a wide range of municipal vehicles and equipment. The role requires the expertise and competency of a licensed Motor Vehicle Technician holding a 310T (Truck and Coach Technician) and 310S (Automotive Service Technician) Certificates of Qualification, ensuring all work meets regulatory and safety standards.

Main Duties:

• Conducts repairs, service and inspections on a variety of engine types including but not limited to  gasoline, diesel, hybrid, CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), battery electric and propane in accordance with established methods and procedures; 
• Focus on quality customer service and continuous improvement. Supporting the corporate values and strategic plans of the City of London;
• Performs repairs, maintenance, service and inspections on light, medium and heavy duty vehicles and equipment that are part of the City of London municipal fleet;
• Works from prescribed service manuals (hardcopy and electronic), technical reference materials, manufacturer specifications and schematic diagrams;
• Performs and certifies Ministry of Transportation (MTO) vehicle inspections under the DriveON program, ensuring all work and associated repairs meet regulatory standards. Accurately completes and electronically signs DriveON reports and certificates to validate work performed;
• Responsible for diagnosis, maintenance and repair to a wide variety of mechanical systems including but not limited to electrical, electronic control systems, electric motors, pneumatic, steering, brakes, suspension, hydraulics, emission control systems, ignition, fuel, engines and drivetrain to all types of vehicles and equipment in the fleet;
• Uses hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment as well as precision instruments and specialized diagnostic equipment in environments that may involve exposure to disagreeable conditions. Inspects and maintains all tools and equipment in good working order and reports any defects;
• Checks and verifies their completed work to ensure safety standards and satisfactory operation;
• Performs electric and acetylene welding and cutting as required related to vehicle and equipment service and repair;
• Prepares and maintains written and/or electronic work records such as time sheets, work orders, parts lists and inspection sheets. Accurately documents work activities and time on paper and/or through Fleet Management Information Software and payroll system;
• Moves all types of vehicles and equipment in and out of work area;
• Maintains a neat, tidy and clean work space and maintains compliance with maximum tool box configurations established by the City;
• Recommends changes to procedures and methods as necessary;
• Periodically provide technical guidance and assistance to licenced technicians and other staff;
• As assigned, performs other related duties which are transient, or of an emergency nature, or which are minor but recurring.

Educations Qualifications:

• Successful completion of Grade 12 in the Province of Ontario or equivalent, plus;
• Successful completion of both 310T (Truck and Coach Technician) and 310S (Automotive Service Technician) Technician Apprenticeship Programs at a certified community college or trade school.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

• Valid Internal Combustion Alternate Fuel Certificates, ICE-NG (Natural Gas) and ICE-P (Propane) or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Valid Certificate of Qualification from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) as a Truck and Coach Technician (310T) and Automotive Service Technician (310S).
• Valid Class DZ Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable legislation and regulations governing Motor Vehicle Technicians.
   

Note: Shift work is required.
 

*Consideration will be given to candidates that have their 310T licence and are able to obtain their 310S licence within 36 months 

Compensation & Other Information:

$41.62 - $46.27 per hour

This posting is for two (2) permanent full-time positions being filled on a permanent basis.
