Learn to Skate Coordinator-NC410

Summary:

Recreation programs provide all citizens the opportunity to improve self-esteem, motor skills, creativity, physical fitness, and social skills through a variety of crafts, arts, and physical activities.

Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Sport Services and Development, the Learn to Skate Coordinator is responsible for providing programming support and coordination of the Learn to Skate Program across several sites throughout the City. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced environment ensuring programs are run efficiently to meet the needs of the participants while providing excellent customer service to City of London patrons and volunteers.

Job Responsibilities

• Visit Learn to Skate programming sites across the city to check in with instructors.
• Responsible for the coordination of administrative functions including accurate record keeping of training, and qualifications.
• Ensure registrants are participating at the correct level.
• Act as a liaison between front line staff and the Manager to promote teamwork and clear lines of communication and to ensure health and safety requirements are met and reported in a timely manner.
• Assist with scheduling, shift changes and coverage including teaching and guarding as required.
• Act as a positive role model, working as a team to ensure staff are following protocols, provide guidance to other staff, observe and give feedback.
• Complete all required paperwork and reports as outlined by the Manager.
• Assist in hiring front line staff, and with the development and delivery of front-line staff training programs.
• Assist with program preparation prior to each program session starting.
• Ensure all program staff complete documentation on a regular basis for attendance, accident reports etc.
• Coordinate the distribution of parent evaluations and program literature as required.
• Inventory, purchase and re-stock program materials as required.
• Assist with training and supporting programming staff.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with the public and co-workers.
• Use behaviour modification techniques when supervising participants.
• Attend regular staff meetings as required by Manager.
• Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
• Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Skate Canada Certified Skating Instructor Certification
• Minimum 10 years skating experience.
• Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (Prior to the start of the program)
• Standard or Intermediate First Aid (prior to the start of the program)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including publisher, excel and word.
• Access to a vehicle at all times during scheduled working hours and proof of a valid driver's license and car insurance.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of behaviour modification techniques.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including publisher, excel and word and Xplor Recreation registration software (Preferred).
• High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments.
• Ability to be flexible and travel throughout the City as required by the Manager.

Location: Argyle Arena, 1948 Wavell Street

Schedule: Saturdays, 8:30 am-11:00 am with prep hours before and in-between sessions.

Session: October 2026 - April 2027

Additional shifts may be available throughout the season.
