Job Description

We are now seeking an Operations Manager to lead our production team and provide support to the organization in terms of continuous improvement initiatives and programs. This position is critical in ensuring production processes are robust, consistently implemented across all customers and projects, and expected results are demonstrated in external and internal performance measures.
 
Job Duties:     
  • Develop & maintain Canduct current & future state production process maps and all required sub-processes including.
  • Report internal & external performance measures that reflect the “effectiveness” of the production process.
  • Report progress of improvement projects to V.P. Operations (minimum monthly)
  • Continuously review controllable costs to ensure improvement projects are achieving desired effectiveness.
  • Ensure that production meets or exceeds customer standards for delivery and quality.
  • Promote and ensure a healthy and safe working environment and ensure that appropriate health & safety standards are developed and implemented in accordance with OHSA regulations.
  • Plan and maintain the appropriate direct labour headcount required for customer order load (in conjunction with HR).
  • Use internal & external performance measures to continually assess performance of production staff.
  • Lead the development of manufacturing systems related to; on time completion of orders, standardized manufacturing processes and methods, quality assurance and defect prevention, safe working practices, and scrap reduction and raw material recovery.
  • Continually review plant capacity and utilization and make staffing recommendations
  • Ensure staff receives appropriate training prior to performing any work and continuously receives training updates and  ensure appropriate cross training is performed for optimum workforce flexibility during vacation and other absences.
  • Support production planning staff with cross departmental or customer based problem resolution issues.
  • Work with Production Supervisors and H.R. to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed and enforced with consistent focus and collaborate with Senior Management Team to develop new policies and procedures as required, or improve existing policies and procedures.
  • Educate, and delegate authority to Plant Supervisors and Lead Hands to continually reinforce policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • College diploma or University degree combined with industry specific experience, and 5 to 10 years in an operations management role in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3 to 5 years in the power sector (transformer or insulation manufacturing), OR, 5 to 10 years in mid to high volume manufacturing environment, wood working preferred.
  • High level of proficiency with MSOffice applications (excel, word, powerpoint), ability to read CAD / technical drawings and experience with multilevel bills of material.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
