Summary of Duties

Reporting to the Manager, Core Area Programs, this position performs a variety of customer service, hospitality and guidance duties required for the security, maintenance, and activation of services conducted in the Core Area by other service areas and monitors, assigns, and provides guidance in the work of Core Area Representatives. Additionally, this role supports the marketing, promotion, and implementation of the programs and services of Dundas Place and the Core Area.

Work Performed

Provide a friendly presence in the Core Area by proactively interacting with residents, visitors and business owners on a recurring basis.

Walk the Core Area regularly to evaluate operations and protocols; recommend improvements, prioritization, staffing levels; provide information to the Manager on operations and activities.

 

Act as a regular liaison to cultivate courteous and constructive working relationships with Core Area property owners and occupants, business owners, residents, and visitors.

 

Maintain ongoing knowledge of City Divisions and Service Areas and partner agency services required to assist the public.

 

Identify and report cleanliness, security, safety and public health issues to the appropriate service areas and partners, including but not limited to the London Police Service, Coordinated Informed Response, Municipal Law Enforcement Services, Special Events and Roadside Operations.

Offer information and respond to general inquiries in person or through various media as required. Respond to inquiries escalated by Core Area Representatives or refer to the Manager as per protocols.

Raise awareness of services offered by the City in support of the Core Area through numerous approaches including meeting with businesses and residents.

Provide guidance to Core Area Representatives to promote a culture of high performance in support of program objectives, customer service, health and safety, and respectful interactions with the public and business owners based upon the City of London commitment to antiracism, anti-oppression and inclusion.

Conduct daily shift briefings to include health and safety matters, uniform checks, inspecting equipment, making zone patrol assignments, and special projects.

 

Prepare shift schedule for Core Area Representatives for Manager approval.

 

Assist the Manager to organize and schedule the implementation of rotating displays, shows, special events and exhibits and related non-permanent activities based on variable schedules and durations. Provide input in the evaluation of programs.

 

Proofread media releases, social media and other documents. Upload online content to
various communication venues including social media.

 

Collaborate and work with other Divisions and Service Areas to support and implement Core Area Programs.

 

Contribute to the operation of the Dundas “Field House”.

Qualifications/Experience

Completion of a diploma in Recreation Administration or Business, or a related field.

 

Ability to work varied hours to meet requirements of the position.

 

Required to be outside in a variety of weather.

 

Current First Aid/CPR certificate or ability to obtain.

 

Ability to speak a second language is an asset.

 

Training in de-escalation techniques and in crisis intervention is an asset.

 

Training in safe handling and disposal of sharps is an asset.

 

One year of related work experience in a team leadership or supervisory role working with the public.

Specialized Training & Licenses

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

 

Demonstrated outgoing and extroverted demeanour and the ability to proactively engage and interact with a variety of people.

 

Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.

 

Ability to implement and promote a high level of customer service and deliver services that support Core Area clients in a timely and effective way.

 

Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and problem solving.

 

Demonstrated ability to show respect and effectively communicate with diverse populations within the community.

 

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with organizations, clients, and other stake holders.

 

Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, and related software and database applications.

Compensation and Other Information

$45,167 - $63,507 (Level 9)

 

This position is currently under review by the CUPE 101 Joint Job Evaluation Committee.

 

This is a temporary position up to December 31, 2023. 

 

This posting is for 2 positions.

 

Current hours of Work:

 

•    Starting no earlier than 7 AM and ending no later than 11 PM Monday to Saturday
•    Starting no earlier than 7 AM and ending no later than 8 PM Sunday

 

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays. Shift premiums and weekend premiums will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement. 

 

Uniforms are required and will be provided.
