Brescia is currently seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to fill a position as:

 
Mental Health Counsellor
(Temporary Part Time Position – One year contract – 21 hours/week)
$35.90 per hour

 

The Student Experience team is one expression of Brescia’s commitment to our students. Our team works collaboratively to provide a broad framework of student engagement programs, services, and initiatives that support and enhance all facets of the student experience at Brescia, particularly: mental health & wellbeing, gender-based and sexual violence education and support, orientation & transition, career development & education, leadership & involvement and residence life.

Reporting to the Manager, Student Wellness and as a member of the broader Student Experience team, this position is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of personal/group counselling initiatives. The role provides personal/individual/group counselling support and consultation from a brief solution focused model; assists in maintaining Brescia’s early alert program; and focuses on wellness promotion and outreach.

The Mental Health Counsellor is expected to work in strong collaboration across partners and alongside the Office of Student Wellness to support students and initiatives outlined in Brescia’s Strategic Plan. Strategies are designed to enhance student mental health support, emphasize evidence-based practices, improve student access, and strengthen prevention, wellness promotion, and skill development.

The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or other related degree with a minimum 3 years of mental health related experience in a psychotherapeutic setting, working with individuals with mental health needs or who have experiences gender-based and sexual violence and preferably in a post-secondary environment. The candidate must be registered (or eligible to be registered) with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. We seek a strong collaborator with superior initiative, ability to prioritize, and sound judgement. Demonstrated knowledge of student mental health and wellness needs is essential, as is the skill to effectively adapt and respond to complex and changing needs. Training and/or experience in risk and threat assessment, non-violent crisis intervention, suicide intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and/or Brief Solution-Focused approaches are strongly preferred.
