The Western Power Plant is a First Class Plant rated at 23,082 KW, comprised of 5 high pressure steam boilers, 4 large water chillers, 4 high pressure air compressors and is registered under the Government of Ontario's Technical Safety Standards Authority.  The Power Plant is the hub of the heating and cooling systems for the University campus and also supplies high pressure steam service to London Health Sciences Centre’s University Hospital for all of their heating and sterilization requirements.

Under the direction of the Director Facilities Operations, the Assistant Manager will work collaboratively with the Manager, Power Plant Operations in overseeing the safe, efficient and reliable operation and maintenance of the steam and chilled water systems for the campus. The Assistant Manager will work collaboratively with members of the Power Plant team and is responsible for overseeing the steam, condensate and chilled water distribution infrastructure including 9 Satellite Cooling plants (consisting of 16 water chillers), 27 open cooling tower systems, 5 hot water Heating Plants (consisting of 15 hot water boilers), 70 steam Autoclave/Sterilizers and all associated support equipment.   The Assistant Manager, in conjunction with the Manager, will develop and update construction and operational process project plans, and support the budget development, design, implementation and evaluation of project components while ensuring project outcomes are achieved on time and within budgetary constraints.  The Assistant Manager will also be the Acting Manager in the absence of the Manger, Power Plant Operations.

Qualifications

Education:
-   Completion of Power Engineering Technology Diploma
-   Licensed First Class Power (Operating) Engineer (NOTE: Licensed Second Class Power (Operating) Engineer working to acquire and maintain First Class will be considered)
-   Licensed Gas Technician is preferred

Experience:
-   7 years' experience managing the operation and maintenance of First Class Power Plants, Heating and Cooling Plants, providing steam, chilled water, compressed air and electrical power in an institutional environment
-   Project management experience is preferred


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Ability to evaluate issues, recognize potential problems and take action to proactively resolve issues
-   Ability to ensure project expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
-   Communication skills with the ability to converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization
-   Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
-   Project management skills to align projects with operational objectives, ensure team roles are clear, milestones are communicated, and deadlines are met
-   Ability to efficiently handle a variety of tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines by setting effective priorities
-   Sound judgment and decision making ability with a willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
-   Organizational skills to manage multiple, diverse activities that are accurate and thorough, sometimes of a complex nature or involving competing priorities
-   Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with various stakeholders and colleagues, including senior management
-   Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
