VersaBank (formerly Pacific & Western Bank of Canada) is an entrepreneurial and growing Schedule 1 Chartered Bank with over $1.7 billion in assets.  The Bank is a branchless financial institution that raises deposits through a network of brokers located across Canada. The Bank invests these deposits in loans, leases, commercial mortgages, residential development mortgages, and debt of corporations.
 
The work of the Bank’s legal department is focused on securities, corporate and regulatory law.  Reporting to the Vice President & General Counsel, the Law Clerk position is responsible for supporting the legal department with a wide variety of administrative and clerical duties on a timely basis. 
 
Some key responsibilities include:
  • Preparation and distribution of agendas and materials for board and committee meetings; maintenance of corporate minute books and other records
  • Transcription and preparation of minutes and other correspondence
  • Legal file organization and maintenance
  • Preparation of disclosure and other securities documents, including news releases
  • Preparation and on-line filing of various corporate and securities reports, including insider trading reports
  • Maintenance of the policies & procedures manual and a departmental calendar, used to track filing and other key dates
  • Updating and maintaining the legal department working manual
This position will appeal to a self-starter with an attention to detail who is committed to learning and thrives in a very busy, dynamic and technology oriented environment.  You are a team player and are comfortable interacting with co-workers, executives and Board members.
 
Your background includes a Law Clerk diploma and at least 3 or more years of applicable experience.  You have superior written and verbal communication skills, take initiative when appropriate and work well independently.  The ideal candidate will be tech savvy and have a strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel, along with a variety of online applications and websites.
