 OPERATIONS MANAGER - London Plant

 

 

1.  General job description

  • The Operations Manager is responsible for all activities at the site including operational budgets, forecasting, EH&S, Stakeholder relationships, financial performance and leadership of site employees.

 

2.   Reporting

  • Reports to General Manager Canada

 

3.   Responsibilities

  • Maintaining facility in optimum operational and maintenance conditions.
  • Optimize process performance, manage operational efficiency and overall costs.
  • Provide safe and enviromental working conditions for all employees and visitors.
  • Ensure proper health & safety of employees, contactors and visitors to the facility.
  • Minimize enviromental impact of facility activities. Ensure correct followup of all permit and legislation requirements of facility, including third party activities on site.
  • Ensure compliance with all Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and develop a strong safety culture amongst all employees.
  • Coaching of operational and maintenance staff.
  • First contact for facility concerning communication to external parties (MOECC, MOL, Neighbours, Customers, Suppliers etc.).
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with regulatory bodies, including MOECC and the MOL

 

4.   Tasks     

  • Prepare annual budget for the facility including monthly forecasting and monthly financial review in conjunction with Canadian General Manager and Controller.
  • Implement and monitor relevant KPI’s for all production processes
  • Regular reporting of operational performance. (including costs and QESH items)
  • Organize weekly operational schedule.
  • Organize correct follow up of all QESH ( Quality Environment Saftey and Health) issues for the facility, including permit issues and internal Orgaworld procedures. Ensure timely reporting.
  • Timely notification of major issues, accidents  or significant process deviations, including corrective recommendations.
  • Initiate and maintain improvement programs for maintenance and operations.
  • Guide/support in-process testing programs . Arrange external lab analyses.
  • Organize purchase and/or rental of equipment.
  • Annual evaluation of employee performance.  Organize facility training program for employees (in close contact with: Human Resources, Compliance Officer and General Manager Canada).

 

5.    Functional and financial authorities

  • Control over expenditures and work within the set operational budget.
  • Proactively advise General Manager Canada on site related issues.
  • Responsible for managing disciplinary procedures if necessary (General Manager Canada & HR Advisor to be informed of any serious staffing disciplinary issues)
  • Instructing third parties and/or internal project management, to cease activities in cases of serious non-compliance with QESH.
  • Initiate improvement and/or testing programs by written request ( including Initial costs, potential benefits and planning)

 

6.     Job Qualifications

  • Relevant education/background and/or experience in field of operational management.
  • Preferece given to applicants with a technology diploma or university background in chemistry and/or environmental science
  • Coaching abilities. Leadership.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the field of organic waste treatment/biological processes.
  • Experience with environmental, health and safety permitting
  • Experience with MOECC and MOL
  • SCADA or Similar Computer Controls experience an asset
  • Hands-on approach, willingness to walk the floor and lead by example
  • Proactive attitude, and team builder
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • Driver license required.
  • Willingness to work outside office hours where required
