Human Resources Generalist

SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for a broad range of human resources functions, with a significant emphasis on positive client service. The Generalist will support the strategic and operational business objectives of Huron and will facilitate the implementation of human resources practices, policies and programs.
The role will act as a resource to the HR team and the Huron community to provide guidance and support on human resources related issues, in compliance with Huron’s policies, procedures, collective agreements, and government legislation.
Within this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Legislation compliance: stay up to date with Canadian legislation to ensure HR policies and programs are in compliance;
- Health and Safety: lead the JHSC and all health and safety compliance, programs and initiatives;
- Organizational Policies: maintain, update, and develop policies as required;
- Employee Relations: Supporting employee and labour relations and respond to inquiries from Faculty and Staff;
- HRIS Management: ensure timely HR and payroll data updates in ADP and managing reports as required;
- Employee Events: plan, organize, and support employee events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education from an accredited institution with a focus on Human Resources, Labour Relations, Business Administration or related field;
- CHRP or CHRL designation required;
- Minimum five (5) years of related experience working in an HR Generalist, HRBP, or Advisory role, preferably within a unionized environment;
- Experience interpreting and administering Collective Agreements;
- Joint Health and Safety Committee certification and experience working with / supporting a JHSC;
- Working knowledge of relevant employment legislation and a demonstrated understanding and ability to apply in a variety of settings;
- Proven ability to be non-judgemental and maintain discretion, confidentiality, and sensitivity when dealing with various situations;
- Excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
- Well-honed and developed interpersonal skills to represent Huron professionally;
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve effectively and use good judgement in all decisions;
- An open and inviting approach that allows the opportunity to build meaningful, trusting relationships;
- A strong willingness to participate fully in a team environment;
- Ability to work with diverse communities with respect, sensitivity, creativity, innovation, and cultural understanding;
This position is not remote – the successful candidate will be required to work in person.
