Anago is currently recruiting a summer student for the position of Recreation Leader for our therapeutic care residence located in Parkhill, ON.  This eleven (11) bed residence supports adolescent females between the ages of 12-17.  Reasons for youth placement include parent/teen conflict, school resistance, mental health issues, and/or conflict with the law.

 

The Recreation Leader summer student will be exposed to all aspects of the Child and Youth Worker program, including but not necessarily restricted to, supervision of the youth, planning and coordinating educational activities, and administrative duties.  The student will be responsible for creating and developing programming for groups and individuals to support increased physical fitness, development of healthy living choices and practices and promote strategies to participate in pro-social community groups and activities. Shifts will include days, afternoons and some weekends.

 

Qualifications:

  • Able to establish therapeutic relationships on the basis of respect and trust
  • Demonstrated understanding of support requirements specific to individuals with complex needs
  • Support individuals with daily living while pursuing leisure and recreational opportunities
  • Ability to write clear, concise observations of daily activities and interactions
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals to achieve goals
  • Proven computer skills, MS Office preferred
  • Ability to use sound judgment and make independent decisions based on Policies & Procedures
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills; attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of the team
  • Current Police Records Check & Vulnerable Position Screening
  • Pursuing post secondary education in a related field or equivalent
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have some experience working in a residential setting and/or with individuals with complex and high behavioural needs.

 

Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and,
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

 

Work Location:           Anago-Parkhill Therapeutic Care Residence (APR) – Parkhill, ON

 

Wage:                          $15.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
