Job Description

The General Accountant role is a great opportunity for anyone who is seeking to expand on their entry level experience.
This role advances previous knowledge and skill by combining
bookkeeping, treasury and internal controls to maintain the book and records of the company and keep it running smoothly. As well as helping internal stakeholders, the General Accountant will also interact with customers & suppliers.

The General Accountant is further responsible for directing, organizing and controlling bookkeeping and reporting functions in co-ordination with the Project Coordinator, Estimator, Suppliers & Customers, while working under the direction of the Controller.

 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Accounts Payable

  • Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documents
  • Review and verify invoices for G/L coding, amounts, payment terms, authorized approvals and other related information
  • Post invoices into the Accounting software
  • Perform the A/P cheque disbursements and maintains A/P vendor files
  • Process and reconcile all A/P Intercompany accounts
  • Maintain wire payment records to intercompany accounts
  • Ensure installment payments are paid according to schedule
  • Ensure vendor statements are up-to-date
  • Handle vendor/employee inquiries
  • Reconcile A/P trade accounts on a monthly basis
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings

Accounts Receivable & Order Entry

 
  • Prepare the daily bank deposits for the cash receipts and post to the G/L
  • Ensure customer statements are current and follow-up on outstanding amounts as required
  • Process and reconcile all AR Intercompany accounts.
  • Process Construction Draws, Extra Invoicing, Payment Certificates and other invoicing as required
  • Update Extra database as required for completed & invoiced work

Payroll - backup

  • Collect and summarize timekeeping information
  • Obtain supervisory approval of time card discrepancies
  • Obtain overtime approvals
  • Process garnishment requests
  • Process employee advances and paybacks
  • Process weekly payrolls into software and job costing system
  • Print and issue paychecks
  • Process employment verifications, terminations and ROE
  • Knowledgeable on in place union contracts
  • Knowledgeable on Dump Truck Employment Standards
  • Knowledgeable on Union Due calculations and remittances

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

 
  • Self motivated, Independent, adaptable and flexible. You are able to manage several evolving priorities within a fast-paced and dynamic work environment with minimum supervision
  • Strong prioritization, planning and time management skills along with the proven ability to consistently meet tight deadlines.
  • You will also have excellent analytical & strong technical accounting skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and listening abilities.
  • Experience in project based financial management, cost estimation/control and risk identification, assessment and management.
  • Business awareness – sensitivity to product, project and corporate profitability.
  • Communicates clearly, concisely and persuasively at all levels.
