Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Student Wellness, the successful applicant:                                                                                     
  • Conduct intake assessments; reviews and assesses confidential disability-related documentation, makes recommendations for appropriate and reasonable accommodations in keeping with the UWO Senate Policy on Academic Accommodation for Students with Disabilities and OHR Commission Guidelines.
  • Provide personal/psychological counselling for students, dealing therapeutically with areas of a highly sensitive nature with serious impact on a student's life.
  • Respond to individual students in crisis, dealing with the immediate crisis situation and making appropriate referrals and/or integrating service to the student into the ongoing individual counseling/therapy function.
  • Assist students with academic, psychological, and social difficulties related to their disabilities and helps them adapt to the university environment.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with students to monitor the effectiveness of the individualized accommodations and supports. 
  • Assess and refers students to appropriate support services at King's and in the greater community. This may include technology supports, counselling services, academic support services, health services etc.
  • Provide workshops, groups and presentations on service-related and special topics. Develops, implements and coordinates programs and presentations to educate students in areas of personal/student development.
  • Support and act as a resource for student-initiated programs and groups focused on meeting student support needs.
  • Take appropriate action to support students experiencing disability-related difficulties, including liaising with faculty and other offices of the College and University.
  • Responsible for identifying and communicating physical and technological barriers at the College to various individuals and department.
  • Will attempt to resolve any disagreements with Accessibility Services for Students’ recommendation for accommodation through consultation with the instructor, Department Chair, or Dean.
  • Respond to complex inquiries and serves as a resource for students, parents of current and prospective students, and members of the community. 
  • Link students with campus and community resources, including supporting applications for BSWD (Bursaries for Students With Disabilities)
  • Maintain detailed and confidential and accurate records of work.
  • Assist Manager in other related tasks that contribute to the successful operation of the service area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must have:
  • Masters’ degree in a related discipline
  • Full membership in a professional college which entitles the member to practice psychotherapy in Ontario such as OCSWSSW or CRPO
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience with the provision of psychotherapy and experience developing accessible accommodation plans is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Post-secondary educational setting experience is preferred.
  • Experience providing service to diverse populations 
  • Experience providing video and/or telephone counselling preferred
  • A high sense of confidentiality
  • Accuracy and a strong attention to detail
  • The ability to function in an environment where expectations for performance and the number of clients requesting services are very high.
TYPE OF JOB:

Full Time Contract (8 months) This position must be available to work from campus.

EFFECTIVE DATE:

As soon as possible.

SALARY RANGE:

PSG 15 - $79,163 - $99,121 per annum, dependent on experience
