Join Let’s Talk Science, an award-winning, national, charitable organization focused on education and outreach to support youth development. We create and deliver unique learning programs and services that engage children, youth and educators in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Through our programs, resources and services, we inspire Canadian children and youth of all ages to fulfill their potential and prepare for future careers by supporting their learning and engagement through STEM. Let’s Talk Science has excited, inspired and engaged more than 3 million children, youth, educators and volunteers in STEM since its inception.
 
Located in London, Ontario, this position will report to the Director, External Relations at Let’s Talk Science. In addition this position will work closely with the other members of the External Relations team as needed based on projects assigned.
 
Responsible for:
  • Review electronic photo library for photos that meet Let’s Talk Science suitability guidelines; compile and organize the best of these photos and accompanying permissions for general use
  • Assist with updating research, Let’s Talk Science contacts lists, files and databases
  • Assist in publishing raw content to Let’s Talk Science web properties
  • Complete research on Let’s Talk Science alumni, prospects, media contacts and/or other stakeholders for use in advancement of the organization’s mission
  • Complete research on marketing and promotional tactics the organization may utilize to promote its programs and services
  • Contribute to the production of stories for letstalkscience.ca and/or Let’s Talk Science stakeholder newsletters
  • Assist with organization and execution of photo shoots
  • Collect and report on google analytics and Let’s Talk Science’s social media presence, including connections and associated #hashtags in use
  • Assist with promotion of Let’s Talk Science and it’s programs; including preparing and coordinating delivery of promotional tactics aimed at increasing the profile of the organization and preparing and disseminating media releases
  • Assist with updating the Let’s Talk Science/Parlons sciences Communications Guide to assist staff and volunteers with use of correct branding and key messaging
 Requirements of the position
  • Post-secondary student with interests in administration, fund development, marketing and/or communications
  • Full-time student in the 2014-15 academic year, planning to return full-time in 2015-16
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and ability to learn new software
  • Demonstrated Internet research skills
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational, communication and research skills
  • Interest in working in non-profit sector and/or in education 
Skills and Experience the Communications Assistant will gain:
  • Skills in writing, presentation , as well as web-based communication and promotion
  • Computer skills, including use of Google Analytics, an e-communications management platform, contact managements systems  and web site content management systems
  • Interpersonal skills, working in a team environment
  • Communication and organizational skills
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit education environment
  • Increased understanding of communications and the role it plays in communication and organizational advancement
  • Research skills gained through refined Internet searches
